I’ve got a mountain of **** to do today—doctor’s appointment, content deadlines, kid logistics, bills stacked like bad decisions—but all I can think about is wrenching on the hot rod. I’m this close to having it dialed in just right, and every minute spent doing anything else feels like a waste of oxygen and caffeine.

The pull of flathead glory is real, and it’s making me about as productive as a one-legged man in an ***-kicking contest.

So in the spirit of multitasking and half-assing, I slapped together a quick and dirty video about a case I built for storing Stromberg 97 jets. It’s barely produced, probably riddled with mistakes, but it let me touch the car today—so I’m calling it a win.

Watch it, don’t watch it. I’ll see ya on the other side.

I am certainly no Snap-on expert, Ryan, but your date code looks to me like 1949.

And I haven't worked on any automotive carburetors for decades, but stringing jets on a wire doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

You didn't get that jet OUT without that socket unless you wanted to really ****** it up.
I've got several modified screwdrivers - had to take them down a guy who had a bench grinder so they'd fit perfectly in screwball carburetor jets. Case Tractor updrafts had a really really skinny slot on them.
Never ran into any Strombergs - the guys using those did their own work.

Lots of people made the socket... and plenty still do, but they are typically stamped steel. This is the only snap-on I've ever seen though.

Looks like a great box for Stromberg parts.

Your post also forced me to jump on Ebay and get one. I have Uncle Max's jet tool, but always wanted the Snap On socket. Now I do thanks to your nudge.

All this 3D printing is actually making me want to buy a unit. Too lazy to learn the tech, though. LOL!

There was one on eBay? What did it go for if ya don't mind me asking? I'm not selling, I'm just curious...

I've been looking for a few years and they fell off my radar until your post reminded me. When I was looking a while back, anywhere between $25-$50. They've since come down in price.

There are a couple on there currently and I picked out a mint one. After tax, shipping, it was $20. I'm now going to get all of the other Snap-On Stromberg specialty sockets because I just can't have the one. LOL!

Funny, there is a Bruce Lancaster post on here somewhere with someone selling all of the SO Stromberg related sockets for something like $50 and he snatched them up immediately. This was about 10-12 years ago.

Sure do miss Bruce.

You need to put a label on that box.. so you can find it in the drawer or shelf it will reside on.

I'm kind of a label freak...

I am looking at a new 3d Printer to replace the old Creality 10 taking up space.
Not to light the fuse on a new label making obsession but you could modify the lid print to have a little bordered area to place the label in it or even just print the label as part of the box when you make it.

Wait. They made other tools for Strombergs? ****. I'm gonna work really hard to forget that I just learned that.

And Bruce... I do too man... I do too...

There's a spot for labels right between the latches. :)

But mine sits in a drawer that's already labeled.

Haha. Yep, one curved screw driver blade recessed into a socket to remove the three jet plugs and a spanner socket to the remove the power valve in the body and one other that I'm forgetting. There are four, Stromberg specific sockets in total I believe. If not four, definitely three.

I think that there are 5 Stromberg sockets. Two are for jets (TMC 42 for ee1 and TMC 46 for ee2 and ee3). There are also 3 other sockets, that actually say Stromberg carb on them. One has a slot cut in the side.

The deep double D ones for jets do not have Stromberg on them.

To lazy to search, but is the case "public" print on one of the sites? Or is it your design?

Yes, they made them for the larger Packard etc. Strombergs & the ultra rare 4 bbl carbs. The ones I’m talking about are for the Ford 81/97/48 carbs.

That box looks great! Love the cap screw hinges.
Enjoyed the video. Thanks for posting.

I am no help with Stromberg tooling, but I have a cool Carter Carb tool kit in the original organizer...

Ryan,

The case looks great. I'm *this* close to pulling the trigger on a Bambu H2D and then going OCD on the garage.

How do you like those Wera drivers? I've been contemplating a ball end set and those are top of my list. I got my first Wera's recently, and well, they're very nice to use.

Thanks,
Ed

I don’t have a ton of Wera, but I do really like this little hex driver set… I’d love to try more from them.

That hex driver set does look solid — might have to give Wera a try myself soon. Always good to hear real-world opinions.
