Spidertrax Chassis
« on: June 29, 2009, 05:03:50 PM »

Hey Scott, new board looks great!!  I haven't posted here for sometime and noticed the buggy section hadn't seen a post since Sept.  Thought I would share some pics of my new project.  Front will be skinned like my ZJ.  Very excited abbout getting this thing going.  You should be hearing from me soon.  There are a few things I need to buy to say the least.

06 SPIDERTRAX CHASSIS  ---->  6.0 Vortec/4l80e/Atlas four speed will be the powertrain.  Going to be a tight fit, I have some bars to move around.

Here is a list of things I have for it right now.

-2006 Spidertrax STX Chassis
-Tires and wheels
4 brand new 40” Maxxis CC's Comp compound
4 brand new KMC Aluminum wheels, 17x9x4.5
16" Sway Aways front and rear
Triple Bypasses in the rear
-Front axle
High Pinion Dana 60
Dedenbear Knuckles
Alloy USA axles
Spicer Joints
Triangulated 4 link with
7/8 x 7/8 heims with high mis spacers top.
1 x 1.25 Heims bottom with high mis spacers.
All heims are in good condition, nice and tight.
-Rear Axle
Started as a 5/16" wall tube housing. Trussed. Then the 14 bolt spindles were welded on last so they are perfectly inline with the housing. This is a must if you want everything to last!
Mark Williams Chromoly Spool
5.38 Richmond Gears - the best available
Shafts - Dutchman 35 spline 1541H
1410 Pinion Yoke U bolt style
14 Bolt hubs and spindles = short hubs that don't stick out and 35 spline!
Chevy 3/4 ton disk brakes.
65.5" WMS-WMS.
Has trailer tie downs welded on next to diff for straps etc.
Double Triangulated 4 link with
7/8 x 7/8 heims with high mis spacers top.
1 x 1.25 Heims bottom with high mis spacers.
All heims are in good condition, nice and tight.
-Steering
Full Hydro, double ended ram
-Seats
 Beards. -Odds and ends
New Wilwood masters, ect
12 Gallon fuel cell
single handle cutting brake
Aluminum belly skid plate
Dimple died skid plate for the front axle steering truss

Thanks Guys!

Yep, I picked up the chassis as is from rustynailjustin over on PIRATE.    I have a bit of clean up work to get the chassis exactly where I want it.  For what I paid I feel like I got a good deal.  There are some quality parts that it came with.

I am going to try and post some pics on here as my build gets further along. There is allot of knowledge on this board and I may have some questions as this is my first buggy build.

Picking up the 6.0 Vortec and 4l80e next weekend.  This is going to be a tight fit.  My car is small, and I am shooting for it to be on the light side.  This motor should give me that little bit and help me haul some ass.

A little progress this weekend.  I made some room for my 6.0.  Motor will be going in from the bottom.

I took some measurments.  Totally compressed I am 12" off the ground at the belly and 5 ' 2" to the top of the roof.  With 37" rollers.

One problem I see is that my drivetrain is really  long.  I need to get the motor far forward.  I am thinking about notching the front truss.  Make a horse shoe shape to fir the crank pulley.  I gain about 5".  Anybody have some thoughts on this.

It's been hot in the garage.  Need to keep hydrated...

Getting a little closer.  Front hoops ground smooth and missing front bar repaired.  Oh, and more grinding.....  Finally a little progress that I can see.

A little more progress.

Decided to just keep the rear...  I am finally ready to start building.

The existing material on the side of the car was way to thin.  Added these this weekend.

I also made some gussets for the CA mounts.  My daughters were hanging with me in the garage.  Wrote their initials on on a piece of plate. Traced their hand writing with my plasma.    Kind of neat for them.
