I have narrow feet, and only Allen Edmonds shoes really fit well. Because of that they have been resoled many times. CobblerG is a great guy to watch on YouTube. Good at his job and really helps folks understand what a good repair does.
I've had a pair of Allen-Edmonds dress shoes for 30+ years. Admittedly I don't wear them much anymore now that I'm retired and not going in to the office daily, but they'll last me for the rest of my life.

My very first job at 7 years old ( under my fathers supervision ) was to package shoe taps and heels ( Cats Paw ) brand into small bags for a shoemaker supply house in NYC. I worked a few hours on Saturdays and earned enough money to buy a shoeshine kit which put me in the shoeshine business.

As the years went by, I exclusively used a shoemaker to fix my wingtips for many decades rebuilding my worn shoes. He finally passed away a few years ago and with him went the cobblers art in my city.

PS - I still use my original 60-year-old shoe brush to shine my shoes. Thanks for posting this story. It caused my old memory banks to activate and remember a great craft.
