Merry Christmas Tony, I miss seeing updates from DaBarn. Hope you are well

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas Tony !!

Hope all is well as it’s been quiet in here lately.

Merry Christmas guys, things are going really good here, my day job is taking up so much of my time and mental energy that I have neglected updating my Garage Journal posts.

My birthday is in February and I told my wife that I will only have 36 more months to work before retirement and that will be my birthday present to myself, she told me NO that I will only have 24 more months to work, we will see 🤔 🤞 😎

Tony, take these 24, 36 months to get practiced up for retirement. The most important thing to learn before it happens is to learn how to say NO! I didnt know this when I retired but everyone you have ever known will contact you and desperately need your help with a project! I now know why old men become recluse, there hiding from the vultures! Learn this one thing and you'll enjoy retirement.

Thanks to everyone checking in on me, been busy with the day job, life and maybe being a little lazy, hell I just turned 62 in February maybe its just old age  :ROFLMAO:

I still check in on The Garage Journal every day with my morning coffee, just haven't taking the time to post.

Had a rough week, my dad Cody had a stroke 5 years ago with a bad brain bleed, I think that was the start of his dementia, he spent the next two years at home with dementia until he became too much for mom to handle, she had to place him in a nursing home and that's where he has been for the last two years, well Friday night March 6th @ 9:56 he passed, dad had a strong Christian belief and knew he was going to heaven, he always said "I'm blessed by the best".

For me, I'm doing good, it was easier letting him go, then watching him sit in a nursing home with dementia.

Its kind of weird, I'm sitting here on a Tuesday morning and I'm not at work, I never miss work, that's one thing dad always instilled in me, along with teaching me how to weld, use a torch, work on a car, repair a furnace, hell I can never remember a time in my life that dad ever called a repairman out to the house for anything, when it broke down we just figured it out (without YouTube). One of the best memories was we built a wood splitter together from scratch, not from a kit, it was all trial and error, damn that thing sure could split wood.

We will have the viewing Wednesday and the funeral Thursday, I'm doing good, I'm just trying to figure out this empty feeling I have inside.

Thanks for every ones thoughts and prayers 🙏

I haven't called the POPO yet! but Scott had threatened me to get back on The Garage Journal and post something, so as I sat here this morning I went through all my photos since I last posted, some clear back to last summer and fall. So I figure I will post something.

I think it was back in October that I got a call from Don Long of the infamous Big Party Garage, he was passing through the state on his way to Hersey for the big swap meet and asked if he could stop by The Little Party Garage, we had a great visit and shared a few stories before he had to get back on the road.

Sorry for the confusion about that 1234 post, I was having issue's posting photos, but Scott ran with it :ROFLMAO:

I will start to play catch up on my posts, I worked on a batch of cans recently some old and some new.

55138991527_680bf88878_b.jpg

I spotted these cans at the local farm store and thought it would be fun to paint them.

55140263560_ae914848b0_b.jpg

I masked them off, then wet sanded them with some 2000 grit sandpaper.

55139874816_43f7100583_b.jpg

While I'm at it why not throw another can in the mix.

55140263550_6429355a8b_b.jpg

I degreased it and sanded it down to bare metal.

55139874801_7c2b9c944d_b.jpg

Okay lets throw another can in there

55139874811_64c789e7ef_b.jpg

Oh look what I found, yet another can, you see a pattern here

55140056173_a0c96c9645_b.jpg

After getting them smoothed out, they received a coat of primer.

55140263515_06af1a33a2_b.jpg

Started out with some black.

55140263505_caa407a078_b.jpg

I masked the black off and shot some red on.

If you follow along, I had replaced the service door on Dabarn.

55140060303_a69044a9f6_b.jpg

I also installed a new storm door on it to help protect it from the elements, now that door needs some paint.

55140149580_616469f7f5_b.jpg

I have a friend that runs a sign shop, so I decided to have him make a canopy for the overhead door on DaBarn.

55139761716_b20ac27b6d_b.jpg

I like how the canopy turned out, not an exact color match but it will help keep the rain off of that door, I still need to replace the weather strip around the door.

I'm still working on catching up with posting projects from this past summer/fall  :ROFLMAO:

I have a Little Giant sump pump in the basement that handles the furnace/air conditioner condensation along with my water softener waste when it regenerates, the issue was the salty rusty water was staining the house and killing the grass where it exited the basement, the photos will help explain the issue.

55139768466_d9fb66fbd4_b.jpg

UGLY

55139948438_b3b5d5f884_b.jpg

I started out by digging a trench out to a four foot deep hole.

55139768441_c322b08e7a_b.jpg

My ground is clay and hard digging 😰

55139768436_d2b282b84d_b.jpg

Not quite deep enough yet to bury a body

55138884032_944ae0a3f1_b.jpg

Then I had to drill a new hole out through the basement wall.

55139948403_80cf70e6c0_b.jpg

Got the new plumbing ran.

55138884007_3a3d66fe09_b.jpg

Ran the PVC into a five gallon bucket with plenty of drain holes drilled in it, I added several bags of stone under and around the bucket and sealed everything up.

55139768396_83484877e0_b.jpg

Got all the clay broke up and covered up the hole 😰 (y)

55140156515_aa83e1899a_b.jpg

Seeded the area and laid down a bale of straw, then scrubbed the side of the house and plugged the old hole with a PVC plug for now.

55139768406_9b62d802b0_b.jpg

Watered the area every day and the grass came up pretty good! now the only thing left to do is get the wife to repaint the outside basement wall this spring

I picked this vintage sandpaper holder up, it was in really nice shape and I liked the Bear graphics on it, a perfect fit for DaBarn 🐻

55140026859_6aa6d29d2d_b.jpg

I removed the stickers on it and polished it up with some wax, I may still make some new tags for it, someday

55139972398_6da657b354_b.jpg

I actually decided to use it, I organized all of my sheets of sandpaper and arranged them in the new display

55140026864_03379bc5a9_b.jpg

I found an empty spot on the wall and hung it up

If you remember I had picked this vintage Sinclair sign up last year, well it sat on the floor in Dabarn for way too long, so I finally decided to get it hung up from the ceiling.

I started out by buffing the sign, it is porcelain so wasn't afraid of damaging it, in the photo you can see I buffed the right half and I hadn't buffed the left half yet, it made a big difference.

When i purchased the sign the wooden frame was missing from the back, I had some cherry boards the exact size (how often does that happen), I just had to cut them to length and screw them fast.

55140062358_ef4f79e66d_b.jpg

Here it is completed and hanging in Dabarn, I think I spent about a $100.00 on the hardware to hang it

The sign is 2' x 14', its a big one
