That's a nice set! I do not think I ever saw Gray boxes in USAIf you are a fan of early GRAY boxes, and you're somewhere close to Pickering (Ontario), here is a master set for $200. It has the riser box that I don't have.......but, I just do not have room for any more boxes.

Think these belong here, even though they’re parts holders.
Picked these up for $30 each.
Left has to be cleaned, right has been cleaned up with an Evapo-Rust dip and the scrubbed with CLR. So a pretty good before and after.
Plan is to hammer some of the more egregious bits back into shape, then yes Penetrol to preserve the awesome color and patina, though if anyone recommends a better top coat I’m all ears

Good job on the repaint. If the color was bad in these I’d consider it but that hammered blue is so nice and the patina works for me.

End of the Road on this 57….I’m pleased with the clean up and preservation. Cut the liners and filled it up with mostly =V= spares… On to the next!

Just brought mine home from work a few weeks ago. It was in use as a First Aid kit for decades. I had it on display in my office until the HSE guy told me to refill it or take it home….. tough choice….

I’ve never seen one that looks like that. The brace and giant wooden mallet makes me think a bit older. (The ugly back saw handle may be newer, argh). You have to be careful, many of these I see are repopulated with incorrect era or maker tools. Some people go nuts trying to find “correct”, not realizing it didn’t exist (I.e. Stanley labeled pliers). At many flea markets, I see empty boxes.
The 1960s catalog shows (poorly) a tool kit or three.

This interesting shop made box followed me home from a swap meet a while back. It has room for a few saws and other basic carpentry tools. Probably drills in the leather loops in the top. It's the ornate corner and edge guards that I couldn't resist. It also has remnants of a leather strap that once wrapped around it. The hasp is an Eagle, probably from the 20's. A few pics. Ed.

All done. Cleaned and coated with Penetrol. Need to let them cure for a few days at least. Not sure where I'll put them yet as I'm running out of workshop room.

I really tried to keep walking. Did not expect to pick up another wooden carpenter's tool chest. I took about three steps past it and my feet quit moving. Turned around and made a deal on it. It's found a place in the shop with a few other chests and boxes. Ed.

I'm glad you chimed in. Did I send you an empty one I found? Or am I thinking of someone and something else? I've seen others, too, at flea markets, 'tweeners, though, not as old as the one I think I recall sending you, but older than the one pictured above.
The only thing that chest is missing are pieces of eight and doubloons!

Yes, it was me whom you sent it to. It now resides as part of my Stanley/woodworking collection. Does anyone recognize the make of this roller cabinet? Owner thought it was Craftsman but closer look shows Proto on the drawer pulls. I have no other info besides this one photo. Consensus on those seems to be either made by Remline or the toolbox division of MAC that spun off into Matco...
