Wow, how cool. Deck looks great! And a gift package to boot! What a great day!
I am generally hateful of all “wood protection” products.Rian,
Deck looks brandnew what is it you use and does it last a while?
I've seen a lot of people going with the composite deck boards. Mine is the aforementioned pine that has been pressure treated, but that doesn't make it any better. Might even make it worse since the stuff is always wet when you buy it and over time twists into all sorts of fun shapes! Redwood would be my choice if I had it to do over, or stone if money was no object! Stone would be amazing actually.
As far as the sewing machine is concerned, you can do a lot with a smaller machine. I would think the only place you would run into trouble may be the piping if you use any, and the tabs to secure it to the seats. If your current seat covers are not destroyed you already have your pattern, just have to split it apart carefully with a razor at the stitches and transfer it to the new material. If you can't find a machine, or an upholstery shop to do the assembly, you could always find a sailmaker.
Alternative suggestion, hop on Marketplace or ask around locally for a used Juki or Consew 206 which would sew about anything you wanted. I've even seen that Vevor is making an industrial machine for around 500 usd. Want to get really wild? Find yourself a Class 8 machine and sew quarters together. I've used those to build parachute harnesses in the past.
I don't understand why it's usually "us old guys" saying this stuff.![]()

Although , of course despite my age , I am not an old guy - I keep telling myself that (even though I say "this stuff" too )
Seriously though , I guess some of us grew up in the post or post post WW2 times where there actually wasn't a lot of stuff that you could buy new or it cost months of wages, so everyone worked on their own cars , push lawnmowers ( !!) and bicycles etc. I made my first guitar amp from instructions in an electronics magazine, my mate made a telescope from magazine instructions too. No way anyone could afford to buy this stuff new, and oftentimes it wasn't there to buy in the shops anyway.
Ahhh, the good old days indeed !!!!
About six years back, I used to work for a scientific instrument manufacturing company. The purchasing director was (and still is) one of best friends. At lunch time, together we used to go for a brisk walk.My one weird lodger showed me a a picture of an Audi R8 convertible yesterday. £40k
He wants to buy it with his dad.
How do you buy it??
Ohh the bank has loads of money.
WTaF ??
About six years back, I used to work for a scientific instrument manufacturing company. The purchasing director was (and still is) one of best friends. At lunch time, together we used to go for a brisk walk.
One day as we were exiting the hq building we bumped into one the purchasing staff at the parking lot. She was a basic buyer (not a manager or even a senior buyer). She had a huge grin on her face when she saw us and she proudly pointed to a brand new Platinum Ford Explorer and said, we ( her husband was a technician at the same company) just bought this!
The expression on my buddy’s face was priceless! He paused for a second and then said, so much did this set you back? She said something around $60k but we put down $10k! Then my friend said, let me guess you probably got a 7% 7 years loan and you have about $850 a month payment! Do you know that car in about two-three years time will be worth probably just over half and you will be upside down? And wouldn’t be better to use this $850 a month towards, saving, 401k and paying down your mortgage faster?
As we walked away from her, I asked how much does she make a year? He said probably something around $45k. He then said, I will have to talk to her manager, we need to find her some other more suitable position!
D.F.B may be the guy to ask - super knowledgeable about car cleaning/detailing products (plus mowers!) and a good guy as well.I would really love to find one of these products that detailers or high end cleaners use.

Wow and tenacity indeed!
I dare say most people hate block sanding and to do this so many times is simply admirable. But the result speaks for itself! Jut amazing and very professional!
Well done!
That's a lot of sanding and polishing on a lot of car. Well done!

Looks fantastic!Three weeks after unmasking, clearcoats assumed to be hardened enough for more work.
Ive had a really busy week and finally at 5.30pm on Saturday I completed the wet sanding/colour sanding and polishing compound work on thr paint.
Of course I am not done.
Where’s the sense in that.
I started with some razor blading work, shaving the runs and some bad clearcoat sagging.
Following that, I block sanded all vertical runs and sags, and also all of the horizontal areas with 1000 grit wet paper. I used about 2ml Fairy liquid dishwashing liquid per 350 ml water in an old Windowlene spray bottle. It prevents clogging of the paper, and enhances the glide of the paper.
Following the 1000 grit I then used 1200 grit and hand sanded down the whole car in a cross hatched pattern. This prevents grooving and waves.
Next up 1500 grit which removed a lot of the scratches from the 1200.
Of course it will leave more scratches. Just muuch finer.
The next day I took my Air DA sander and wet sanded the whole car with 2000 grit foam mops. The difference between 1500 and 2000 is massive if you look at it in good light.
The whole cars texture at this point has gone from very shiny, and lightly textured after the 5-6 coats of clear lacquer to a slightly dull but smooth as glass feel.
Thid incredibly smooth finish was great to feel.
But there was another step to go.
On Saturday morning I started working with an electric mop with a new dense foam polishing head and Farécla G3 polishing compound and the spray bottle of clean water to constantly lubricate the moo, preventing compound burn down on the paint.
Its an extremely messy job and to be honest……. I was sick of this car by now.
But 5 minutes into starting it…….
BOOOOOOMMM !!!!
What a fantastic finish came out from under that mop.
So I carried on and on and on and on……
Packed tools away and brought the car up to the house.
Knackered.

Of course it’s not done yet.
I drove it around on Sunday for food shopping and just because it’s stood all week.
Next job will be a good, soapy wash to clean off all the residue in grooves and door frames etc.
I ordered another follow on polish product last night.
Hopefully it can be applied with the air DA to remove any further swirl marks and seal in the clear.
I would really love to find one of these products that detailers or high end cleaners use.
Historically I have used Zymöl polish but look at the price now. Thats expensive if you consider the Farecla polish id only £12.00 for 500ml.
Exciting day today though.
.

I am afraid even to guess, but I have a feeling another orphan has found its way into your garageForgive me Father(s)
I may have sinned.
AGAIN.
But is it a sin?
Surely protecting the weak, the meek, as we speak
That is fine, maybe even divine.
Ensuring the protection of the few survivors.
So, is it a sin, for which you all want to judge me?
