I am really liking this rolling shop crane. It came in handy again today. I finally moved the Powermatic Millrite Milling machine into the new garage. After rigging it up close with a chain, there was just enough lift left to get the back casters completely off the floor, front casters were just barely grazing the floor. (The knee makes it an awkward, off center load.)
Using a piece of 1-1/4" heavy wall square tube as a lever, I was able to move it out of the old garage, across the paver driveway and into the new shop space by myself.
Ran out of time before dinner to get it in final position and remove the temporary casters, should be able to get that done tomorrow. It's good to finally get this monolith out of the middle of the old garage, another day or so of moving stuff around and I may actually be able to park my truck in there again.20260427_161525.jpg
More to come.

Continuing with the move... I kept one locker section to store welding supplies in the new shop closet adjacent to the welding area. It's going to share space with my air compressor, macerator pump, and probably the mops and brooms.
Built a little base for it to sit on to get it above the base molding so it could sit flush against the wall. Splashed a coat of black paint on the 2x4 base and some blue on the plywood platform to match the lockers.
Quick and easy place to store my weld wire, grinding discs, cutoff wheels, etc... out of the way yet easily accessible. Will finish filling it up tomorrow. 20260427_161608.jpg

My landscaper finished up the little courtyard that was going to screen the mini-split for the office. Now that it's no longer required I'm not sure what we're going to do with it. 20260510_150330.jpg
I decided to go ahead and build it to match the courtyard on the other side of the house. The stone columns allowed me to delete the stone veneer on the office, so it was probably a wash in terms of cost.
Of course, the mini-courtyard wall needed a matching ornamental iron topper and a gate. While I was buying steel for those i saw that someone had scrapped out a bunch of gates, one of them was the perfect width. For $40 I decided could make it work. Flipped it over since the top was in better shape than the bottom, then chopped 18" off and added a little scrollwork at the top.20260510_121552.jpg I'll add the 3/8" thick Trex boards to match the other gates when it comes back from powdercoat.
The wall topper was next, built it out of 1" and 1/2" square tube. Didn't build a jig this time since it was only one 8' long section, but I did use some 1/4" scraps as spacers to center the pickets on the rails; just slid them down as I tacked everything into place. 20260510_123100.jpg
Finished fitting and welding them up in a couple of hours, amazed how easy these were after fabricating all the big courtyard sections last year. Not having to build the gate from scratch certainly helped. 20260510_141807.jpg
After a bit of weld touch up and grinding, these sections were ready to go to blast and powdercoat. Satin black to match the existing. 20260510_150223.jpg

More to come.

Today we experienced a miracle.
Wayne Dalton showed up to rework the high lift track, 11 weeks after the initial installation.
Needed the track installed as high as they could get it so it didn't cover the graphics I have planned for over the Texaco facade roof.

Before: 20260413_113525.jpg

With track raised: 20260512_103911.jpg

After I climbed up on a 10' stepladder and cut off the 35" of excess track as they were pulling out of the driveway. 🤣20260512_104739.jpg20260512_104611.jpg

The other side:20260512_104729.jpg
Looks a lot better with the higher track. It also gives me a lot more clearance on the 10' ceiling fan.

Wonder if they are also going to make me wait 11 weeks before asking for the final payment? 🤔

More to come.

Apparently they aren't allowed to cut track, only install what they are provided in the install "kit".

These installers are a couple of really good guys, but they are working with one hand tied behind their back by their corporate overlords...🙄 they were truly embarrassed and apologetic by how this job was handled, but there is only so much they can do.

Gave them each $50; they did their best.
Texted them a picture of the track offcuts less than 5 minutes after they left...🤣

Patching the holes from the first install now....

More to come.

I have to deal with the one size fits all mentality every day. Only 7 months to go.

Which PC house do you use? What prep do they do and what is approx cost of this job?
I use Jason at 825 PowderCoat in Mesa or Luke at Tomahawk Powder Coat in Apache Junction. These went to 825. Jason has the ability to chemical strip and sandblast the used gate, the new steel just needs to be blasted. Don't know the cost yet, he's always been fair, IMO.
Both places do top notch work-and they're just a couple of miles apart on Apache Trail. Luke can sometimes be hard to reach via phone (he's been in a battle of wits with Verizon for the last couple of years.. 🤣) so I usually just stop by.... interesting character-He has 10-15 mid-60's Ford trucks scattered around the yard.

Finally! now you can get busy on the Texaco Station
Tony, I finally got a chance to work on the graphics above the roof facade today.
Put the letters on with double sided tape to verify placement before I break out the M12 screwgun.
The circles and stars are steel, I used 3" T20 head trim screws in countersunk holes to fasten them in place.

I'll stare at it for a while tomorrow...20260514_184823.jpg

Not questioning your style, but did you look at it with “Scott’s” and the left star swapped? Maybe move both stars closer to the “Texaco”?
