Matt,
What tremendous talent you have — and what a generous gift you are providing to the forum members. Thank you!

What scans do you currently need that we might help with?

I see that you had previously (post 260) asked for a clean scan of some specific models — and then later could have benefitted from a clean scan of the “Sears Best“ label.

(I’ve only read though the most recent page or two — and then started at the beginning of the thread through the first 300 posts so far.)@mattblast

You can place the label in any modern copy machine and email a PDF file. That is what I use to figure out size and placement. I use that as a template, but there’s been other cases where it’s not possible to get a flat image. See my next post Where I was able to get precise measurements and a photograph.

Here is a vintage Delta Catalog No. 800 label I made. It’s printed on a sparkly gold adhesive vinyl with black and red, then I add a scuff resistant lamination. It’s then fed into a vinyl cutter which recognizes alignment marks and cuts precisely around each one.

The original was probably a waterslide decal, and couldn’t be removed without destroying it. I was provided a drawing with measurements and a photograph, and that allowed me to make a perfect reproduction.

(I always make extras if there’s any problem during installation.)

I love seeing your work; this beautiful example immediately above included. I know that your work is simplified when we can provide better images. I had thought that you might even have a few projects or wishlist items that you would like to create IF we could provide you some better original artwork to provide a jumpstart to your craft. (If not, I’ll finish reviewing this entire thread until I tap you for help with my next project.)

Again, you do amazing work!

Delta 1HP REPULSION-INDUCTION motor label. The original was barely legible, but there was just enough detail for me to see the specifications. This is on an aluminum plate that was hand filed to the exact shape. Like my other tags, it has a scuff resistant polycarbonate lamination.

I make them and ship them flat, but they’re easy to bend into the proper and then can be attached to the motor.

Matt, your labels are incredible! Great work! Let me be the one to ask the stupid question. If you laminate the sticker, don't you lose the adhesive on the back? I must be missing something.

You’re thinking of a hot melt lamination used for drivers licenses and such. The lamination I use is a cold lamination and only needs to be applied to one side.

I made a reproduction label for GJ member Capt. Curt for a 1958 1-Horsepower Craftsman motor from a vintage tablesaw. I’ve never made this exact style before, but was able use components from similar labels to put it together. It was a huge help having a flat scan of it that I could use as a template for sizing and positioning of each element.

Here is the 1956 Craftsman Model 100 table saw I restored that this 1-HP motor goes on also that Matt made me the reproduction data plate for pictured below. My Cousin up in Michigan bought them both brand new and when he passed the family left me his old table saw. This saws fairly unique story and some of my Cousins very unique WWII service story is posted on vintage machinery.org website.

Update: here is a picture of Matt's reproduction decal he made for me on this restored 1958 Craftsman 1-HP TEFC motor which goes on this 1956 Craftsman Model "100" table saw in the picture below.

@mattblast : I'm new to this forum. I found it while looking for information on a tool restoration I'm doing. I've only went back 3 or 4 pages, but I am extremely impressed with your work.

Do you have a website or business page somewhere for commissions?

Circa 1935 Delta 705-222 Triple Duty Grinder label reproduction. This was made for a restoration for GJ member Toolguy8 who saw a label I made on YouTube and joined GJ to get in touch.

Thanks for the shout out 11b30b4 (JEFF’S SHOP). I’m really happy to help get new members join the community here.

Reproduction fuse panel label for Iso Grifo Italian grand tourer car restoration. These were only manufactured from 1965-1974 and have a beautiful design.

Printed on brushed silver. Because of the reflective of the substrate, it took several tries to get a good color match. That also made it hard to get a good photo.

It’s interesting that there were only 12 fuses. Four of which are used for the headlights.

Reproduction headband for a Rockwell Delta 11-280 Radial Drill Press. This was printed on a gray silver adhesive vinyl then applied to a sheet of aluminum. The small dots at each corner are used to locate the 1/8” holes. The original one was faded and etched.

Rockwell “First in Safety LVC” decal reproduction. LVC is their term for a magnetic starter (Low Voltage Control).

I had a rendering from vintage machinery but it wasn’t very accurate. It was off-center, had an extra black border and had a registration shift between the colors. Plus is was a bitmap with rough edges.

While browsing marketplace I found the label photo. I make my vectors perfect renditions because there’s always potential for misregistration in the printing process. You can see the original has a color shift at the top left of the L, and at the right side of the C. These were not part of the original design, but artifacts of the color registration shift.

Made a set of labels for GJ user Boardman Bowtie for a Craftsman drill press with Dunlap motor. The black labels were laser engraved on anodized aluminum then the model and serial number where diamond-scribed engraved. The burgundy one was printed and laminated then apply to a sheet of aluminum and filed to shape. The original drive screws were damaged, so sending a set for easy installation.

I made a reproduction label today for a Craftsman 115.6332 1/2 HP Bench Grinder restoration. This was for GJ member drs3317.

After creating a perfect vector layout, I inverted the design to laser it on anodized aluminum. This is because anything black in the design will be lasered away to show the bare aluminum. Then the stamped data was diamond engraved.

Valve cover label for a 1950s BMW 507 3.2L. The original has a brownish print. I made reproductions using black anodized aluminum, and made another set by applying printed vinyl to aluminum. That’s a better color match, but may not be as durable.

Full set of decals for a 1980s Goodall commercial mower. The original tags were damaged and needed to be removed to repaint. The most time-consuming one was the round caution label. It was really tricky to get the dash lines in just the right pattern to match the original. The second trickiest one was one of the smallest. The engine speed required that I draw a turtle and a rabbit.
