I got all of the hardware cleaned and painted.

Then I started on the front wheels for the Mule!
20260415_175126.jpg

Found the best truck here!

Saw a couple of old dudes!

David Ankin stopped by, I was surprised when I looked up and saw him. He had a show called toymakerz.
It was 90 degrees and it was the busiest show I can remember, one more day and were headed home.

I got some shop time today.
20260423_134628.jpg
I layed out the console for the Mule
20260423_150917.jpg
20260423_151524.jpg
I still have to size the hole and mount the choke. I am going to look at the right side tomorrow, this model never came with a console like that or a battery cover, so there is a big void on the right side also, and under the seat is open to the front, so it needs a skirt also.

Im headed out to the turkey shoot this morning, but I picked up my yellowjacket frame from the boys last night, and I couldn't wait to get the number back on it.
20260425_075917.jpg
So I snuck in a little shop time this morning. Thanks Tony it's perfect.
20260401_181656.jpg
While I was out here, I thought about half cup and we had coffee and enjoyed a little quality shop time!
Or as he would have said, quality shed time.
Life is good👍.

We went to breakfast at Ruby's and it started raining, so they canceled the turkey shoot. So we drove down to the Hiwassee river and checked out the gun range in the Cherokee national Forrest! Its pretty amazing! I will be going back.
20260425_180528.jpg
So I went back to the shop.
20260425_134332.jpg
The seat needed some attention!
20260425_134350.jpg
46 years must be the limit on it!
20260425_142333.jpg
Had to replace some bad foam.
20260425_142645.jpg
Not to difficult.
20260425_143110.jpg
Pat donated an old mini skirt!
A mini skirts for a mini bike seat seemed like a good idea💡
20260425_161939.jpg
Had to adjust the pattern, it was too short in the back!
20260425_180322.jpg
It didnt come out too bad, my machine isn't working right, so I used Pats sewing machine in the house.
I got the stock wheels for the mule sandblasted and painted today also, I ordered aluminum mags for it and Randy tried to pass off a set of steel wagon wheels, like we ran on our pickups back in the 70s, I told him to keep them. The stock wheels will be fine! Im hoping to put the tires on them tomorrow and get them on the mule.

Got out early today!
20260426_122228.jpg
That bolt is where the factory brake spring was mounted.
20260426_122214.jpg
It interfered with the kick stand spring and was causing the kick stand to fold up, not good! So I made a different spring mount, it works great.
20260426_122907.jpg
Put the ID plate back on it.
20260426_123234.jpg
Next, I need to get the Tecumseh running, I have a Briggs in stock but the Tecumseh is stock for this one.

I've been at it pretty hard this week.
20260430_145924.jpg
I got the new tires mounted onto the reconditioned wheels, I tried to buy aluminum wheels from three different places, and no Bueno! So stock it is.
20260430_145936.jpg
I got the wiring done, had to replace most of it.
20260430_145942.jpg
Put new vinyl on the seat.
20260430_145949.jpg
Got the console installed.
20260430_150002.jpg
I set the toe-in on the new rack.
20260430_150008.jpg
Next, I need to sandblast the box and finish the body work on the hood, its going to be Red.
20260430_150014.jpg
I need to pressure wash the motor and put a coat of paint on it.
Getting close.

I got to work on the Tecumseh motor for the mini bike this afternoon.
20260430_145841.jpg
It looks pretty rough!
20260430_161755.jpg
I put new coil, points, and condenser in it and hit it with some starting fluid and it fired and ran for a bit.
20260430_181347.jpg
I pulled the carb and its full of tar.
So all of the parts are soaking, Im looking for a carb rebuild kit.
Once the carb is done, the mini bike can be finished.

Brings back memories, my brother and I had a Sears just like this one as our first mini bike, we probably put a thousand hours on it

I disassembled the motor for cleanup and paint, I found about 50' of fishing line wound up behind the clutch and inside of the crankshaft seal, now I know where the oil leak is at. I ordered a new seal today.
20260505_161411.jpg
I sandblasted everything that I could unbolt, cleaned it with lacquer thinner and painted everything gloss black. I found an origenal decal set, if the motor runs without smoking I will order the decals and finish it right.
I also have the original chain guard with the Yellowjacket decal still intact. Its going to be a nice ride for the boys.

I got half of it cleaned and painted.
20260506_132831.jpg
One of the screws that holds the tin in place was stripped so it got tapped out to a 1/4-20.
20260506_140352.jpg
So I got this far and Pat decided we needed to go to town, in a torrential rain storm! She took me to Long Horn steak house for lunch and then to harbor freight, they didnt have the air saw that I wanted, so she took me up to Athens, there harbor freight is twice the size of the cleveland store, they had plenty of saws. Im hoping that the rain is out of here tomorrow, I would like to start the body work on Knox's truck, I want to get a head start on the weekend.

I had to shorten the throttle cable about a foot, and make an end for it.
20260507_181550.jpg
Had to paint some parts with a second coat.
20260507_181521.jpg
I cleaned and mounted the clutch and installed the new chain, Im still waiting on the crank seal that goes behind the clutch, its due here Monday.
20260507_181531.jpg
Sorry for the bad pic, there was a political sign in the background.
Its almost ready for a test drive.

I have been looking for a small motorcycle for a project, I think I have one, it should be here Saturday!

Thanks guys, so far its almost 100% stock, as it came from Sears in 1980!

I did the body work on the right side and the hood on Knox's truck today.
20260508_142158.jpg
The op ran over something on the right side, the fender and door were crunched, almost the full length of the door was creased.

20260508_142151.jpg
The quarter panel was hit in two places, just under the window, and the rocker.

20260508_142145.jpg
And the rear half of the box was a mess.
20260508_162104.jpg
Its fairly straight now.
20260508_162049.jpg
I told him that buying an old service truck wasn't a good idea, especially from Roadtech, every wannabe in the state has beat on this poor truck, now were giving it to a 16 year old boy! Poor truck, just can't catch a break!
20260508_162111.jpg
Half way around the body, were going to work on it tomorrow.

Thank you Terry! It was a good one, had a lot of friends and family show up, we have been partying since friday, had 20 of us at cracker barrel!
68yrs old and still a kid!
I did a bunch of running today, I went to habitat for humanity and bought 10 gallons of primer and a box of electrical boxes for an upcoming project, went to wally world. Then I went to the trike shop and did a little housework on the trailer, its going to pigeon forge in the morning.
Then I got to work on the mini bike for a couple of hours.
20260511_144111.jpg
I decided to build a rear fender, so I cut out some half circles.
20260511_145911.jpg
Then I screwed them together.
I smoothed the shape and routered the edge over.
20260511_151627.jpg
Then I cut me a fender blank.
20260511_153833.jpg
And screwed it to the buck.
And I started hammering, and grinding, and shaping, and got so into it that I forgot to take any pics of the process!
20260511_165959.jpg
20260511_170004.jpg
20260511_165950.jpg
But I remembered to get pics of the paint job.
Its funny how deep my concentration got when I realized where I was in the process!
After I got the fender painted, I had to get cleaned up and go to Jeff and Rebecca's, they made a birthday dinner for Pat and me, it was good and a lot of laughs.
I have some yard work to do in the morning, with a little luck, Ill get the front fender done tomorrow.

I made the front fender today.
20260512_160423.jpg
I cut a piece out of a truck door as kind of a challenge from another group.
20260512_163739.jpg
I screwed it to the buck.
20260512_163940.jpg
Then I started folding it up.
20260512_170236.jpg
Then I worked the edges in my vise.
20260512_170414.jpg
First round
20260512_170609.jpg
Shaped it with a ball peen.
20260512_172248.jpg
Its looking better.
20260512_174128.jpg
Sanded it with 120 grit
20260512_175440.jpg
20260512_175448.jpg
Got it fit up and looks good, its painted and drying

I did some body work and painting on Knox's truck today.
20260513_152645.jpg
I sanded the L. Door jambs and primed it.
20260513_152657.jpg
I found another crease in the bottom of the L. Fender, I pulled the lower bolts so I could access the back side of the Fender and dollyed the crease out. Then I skim coated with filler, sanded and primed.
20260513_152634.jpg
There were several more dents in this area, theres a large dent just above the box on the back corner of the cab.
20260513_174756.jpg
After sanding the primer with 320grit I painted the door frame and jamb white.
20260513_174729.jpg
It layed down really well.
20260513_174724.jpg
Ill do the R. Side tomorrow.
Ill do under the hood also.

Got the right side and under the hood done today.
20260514_140734.jpg
It was in much better shape than the drivers side.
20260514_140727.jpg
I did a little different mix today, it layed down much better.
20260514_140755.jpg
Tomorrow is a play day.

Tomorrow the start of the highway 11 yard sale, The U.S. 11 Antique Alley Yard Sale is a 502-mile-long event stretching from Meridian, Mississippi, to Bristol, Virginia. It ofically runs for four days, but I have some vendors hang out for two weeks.
