Stopped by a TOO estate sale on the way back from an appointment. Walked into a small barn and saw very few tools, and prices seemed really high - like $55 for a cheap come-a-long. Then I saw this beauty (I like Workmates, and have been looking for one for my new place). I looked her over and noticed that she was very clean and shiny, with no rust. Then I noticed she had the bench dogs and my pulse quickened. Then I noticed the cast frame and realized she was a desirable early model.

I reached hesitantly for the hang tag and turned it over, preparing for disappointment, expecting an exorbitant number. Thirty-five bucks, yippee!

ES haul from this morning. The sale was out in the county away from the city. From the pictures, everything was in conex buildings. Figured I would go dig through it. Someone beat me to the set of 1/2” craftsman circle H sockets. 😢 but I did locate the ratchet. It is missing a screw. How difficult is it to find a replacement? I figured some of you experts could help me. I am sure someone here has some good advice. I gathered up an assortment of stuff and makers. $65

Estate sale ($60): Griswold no.7 high dome skillet cover (1047); Stanley Bailey no. 4C (Type 18); C.H. Helko Werk 3lbs axe; 2 x E&J Ford Model T lanterns.

Things come in waves and this is the 2nd piece of Griswold I've managed to pick up. Normally, the cast iron people scoop them up pretty quickly. The Helko axe out of Germany was oddly enough bought from Harbor Freight. Nice to see a plane. There seems to be fewer and fewer out there in the wild.

Picked up a 3500 Lb electric (12V) trailer tongue jack from Freecycle. I have not tested it yet but it was free:

And at a Friday Yard sale, an old aluminum Cooler chest, pretty big for the era!

Pik-Nik cooler Cromstrums mfg inc. Minneapolis Minnesota - Other than needing the gasket replaced, it seems to be in very good condition!:

Nice find with all the trays and dividers. I love that the Cronstrom hinges allow the lid to drop back and stay open when put up against a chair or a wall

I spent $17.95 today to rent a trailer and brought this toolbox home. Now I didn't buy it recently, it has been mine since the HF 68 Toolbox build of 2014. I had kept it stored in a warehouse of my former employer. They are leasing the warehouse out, so this day finally arrived.

I feel sorry for my kids. They will likely be stuck with a lot of this LOL.
But when a yard sale is only 5 blocks from your house you just have to go right?
The Craftsman Versa Stack storage was empty except for the top box that was full of DeWalt hex bits. The DeWalt in the next photo included my favorite style of corded angle grinders with the paddle switch, the corded drill is like new and is a Hammer drill. The cardboard box is a brand new Vevor folding creeper. The DeWalt compressor was to cheap to pass up. The gas welding torch was also too cheap, the big wheel cart is made from an old lawnmower! Ignore the Kennedy stack, that's the second stop LOL.
$140 total.
I was in a hurry and left the gas welding stuff behind for later pickup.

How many of you have bought a large toolbox just for a few tools you have been trying to find?
In my case it was the Craftsman Saltus wrenches in this Kennedy top and bottom stack. I've got a few, trying to get them all.
This was an estate sale only 6 miles from me and the second stop for the day. The Kennedy set was $140, I grabbed a few more small pieces for $172 total. The nail assortment tray is actually made of Copper!
I spent the afternoon sorting tools and doing a quick clean on the Kennedy boxes so I can sell them! Dang mud daubers LOL! Stuff was sorted alphabetically starting with Armstrong on the left.
For those curious I added the 3/4" Craftsman Saltus wrench to my collection and the other 2 are better than the ones I already had.

After the estate sale I stopped back at my place to unload plus a Marketplace buyer was nearby and bought the Ryobi 40V chainsaw and blower from the estate sale a couple of weeks ago. I had errands to run of which one of which was stopping at an antique mall good friends had just bought! My purpose was to sign up as a vendor! Starting small with a bookcase, probably do a bigger booth later!
So after the errands I still needed to pick up the gas welding torch from 5 blocks from my house. I had gotten there early the first time and the guys had kept setting stuff out. So I bought more LOL. Cobalt toolbox $5, rolling toolbox seat $5, Craftsman modern plastic tool box about half full $8, Makers Mark cooler / table combo $8, ******** boards $5 for the pair, Hyper Tough compressor $10.
Time for a couple of hours of sleep! More events tomorrow!

I hit a couple interesting sales locally in the last two days, as I am trying to not go too far nor spend too much money as this has been an expensive year. Anyway:
55271660342_f17cde28e2_b.jpg
From an estate sale, a pre-war tool box (I have a Craftsman just like this, but no identifier here), Bonney socket set box w/ insert, Craftsman 1/4" metric deep set, Walden breaker, misc. sockets (Snap-on, SK, Craftsman, Walden, Cornwell, etc.), Stanley pin punches, Triplett meter (untested, I cannot resist these for some reason), Snap-on (credit book, test light, 1/2" combo, flextention), Dzus wrench -$20.
From a garage sale/estate: misc. MT1-MT2 bits, Starrett mic, Chrome Vanadium DBE (there was also a vintage S&P set for the wife, but she already grabbed them) - $7
And a Restore stop: Bridgeport Phillips, Orchard Park 1/4 (another thing I cannot resist),Craftsman ratchet - $3

The wife is taking a ceramics class on Sat. mornings now, so I am not going to be as active at this time of the week for a couple months. Which is... OK.

Well the guys at the yard sale 5 blocks away said they would have more stuff today so I went bac!. Paid $39 for this little haul. Almost all the tools came from the rolling toolbox tote. The dishes I only wanted the 5 Coca-Cola ones, rest might go to a "stress" room where you break things! The 4 Marvel glasses will probably end up at my new antique store booth. The $5 Craftsman toolbox 🧰 is a keeper.

$23 spent solo at the Jacktown meet: saw handle, mostly Vlchek tubewrench set, Plomb 1/4dr ratchet and tee, Indestro kit wrench, Red Devil Irvington putty knife, Merit DOE, Bonney screwdriver, Harrold sccrewdriver, four L-bolts, and two steel casters.
I had planned to also go to the Blue Ridge flae, but the rising temperature left me too hot and tired by noon.

I went back to Thursday's estate sale today for the grand finale, unable to resist the call of the remaining Stackbins. I knew they had me at "welcome back."

Today's Vise-Grips aren't personalized like the last pair but that's alright. Craftsman impact driver bits are lost in the void but it seems like it barely saw use. Wizard double sided adjustable is pretty funky and is a nice thematic accompaniment to the big flip socket.
Gas pliers are crooked but I'll overlook it because of the built-in screwdriver.

At $20 for the lot I can pretend I saved money over buying brand new bins.

A lot of community garage sales the past couple days going on but lately I don't want to waste the gas unless I know there are tools. I went to one sale today I wish I would have went to earlier, at least earlier today as everything was 50% off. They advertised tools but had 20 different pictures of household items. Well I didn't have other prospects so I checked it out. I arrived 20 minutes before the sale closed and I ended up with everything for $5. I could tell there were tools but everything was picked clean but I did find some useful bits at the bottom of a junk box.

Craftsman Handi-cut blades
Vermont American adjustable spade bit
VA countersink
Craftsman strap wrenches
Craftsman chisel and punch

3 ring binders
paper (printer paper was already gone and I'm low)
Heavy duty Master Products Mfg. 3 hole punch (a hole punch has been on my shopping list for a minute)
Belkin USB 3 universal memory card reader

One, buy today amidst sorting/listing /selling now that I have yet another box in the garage. I couldn't pass these up being new in original packing, instruction sheets included. I believe the only other person besides me to touch the contents was the person who packed the boxes at the factory.

Here is my score today. The majority of it came from a retired tool and die man 30 years out of the business and then a few years as an elevator repair tech. The house didn't look like a winner as I drove up, but I found a box with a couple of Plumb pebbles in it and I knew I had found some good stuff. And then a gentleman walks over to me and sets down an empty box and says you obviously recognize the good stuff. ☹️ Going to be no bargains here. We had a very nice conversation. He was quite pleased when I picked up the mini vise (probably apprentice made). It'd been a joy of his to own that for quite some time. He told me about picking up some of these tools from a gentleman who made dental implant stuff. Those ********* cylinders with little bitty taps hanging out of them were from a power tapper of some nature. He didn't remember what the head looked like but the taps were tiny so I'll figure out what size they are at some point. I'd never seen an XceLite 99-1 driver with an interchangeable reamer in it so that was a fun find as well. The clamp is an old Cincinnati Tool and the auger drill bit extender is a Defiance. The adjustable wrench is a Dayton with the click lock feature. The tap wrench is a Greenfield. No idea who made the pin wrench yet. He said the 6 mm taps in the red box were made to be used sequentially for the most precise threads. And notice the opened tool kit with the four interchangeable bits (as seen on a different thread). He told me when he found that it reminded him of the book and movie Papillon, as a way to store high value bills. 😬 The scrapers for a sawzall and the doggie muzzle were both freebies at another stop.

I may not have been hitting any yard sales lately--as there just haven't been any--but stuff still wanders into the shop at times:

55273733437_19151a39cc_o.jpg

A buddy is cleaning out his parent's large house as his mom is moving to small house.

55274782273_ff519a743c_o.jpg

Not sure I have a use for the pulley puller/installer kit, but it looks to me like the Timing Gear Puller kit just needs a generic bearing splitter or three to be perfectly useful.

The blanket is HUGE:

55274882269_2afa9ef0c3_o.jpg

Moroccan wool with a cotton weft! Folded over, it's worth any two blankets I own.

The price was right: free.

Bought this Kennedy top and bottom box full of tools today off of marketplace today. Got it picked up and back home around dark. I will inventory the contents in the next few days to see what treasures await. 😂
Here are the other pictures from the marketplace listing.

I was able to get out this PM and hit a few sales. Most of which were winding down by that point, but I went by the sale where I found the MT drill bits yesterday, hoping to find some more. No luck with that, but poking around I found an old tool box tray full of rust, but I spied some sockets, and this is what turned up
55274796301_3478237fc0_b.jpg
a nearly complete SpeedMaster 1/2" set, only missing the three smallest sockets. Dirty, rusty, with some chrome peel (and pitting under that) but all in good working condition. These are the Wright made tools, the ratchet works (with some oiling), it has the extra long extension, the cross pin, and so on. And, I even found the (mostly) right box for the set a couple weeks ago
55274799026_94416e8662_b.jpg
The whole set cost me $5. And I paid about a buck for the box.

IMG_0469.jpegJake’s Flea Market was PACKED today!
IMG_0468.jpegI don’t recall the overflow parking to the overflow parking to the overflow parking (beyond the gap in the trees, which is outside the usual de facto boundaries) being used so extensively.
I was ambivalent about going, but rain forecast later this week and other plans for Memorial Day, I figured I’d regret it. Very few available vendor spots open, too - like maybe half a dozen!

But all that came home (for $2) was a big Bonney screwdriver, an Indestro combo, and a jar of solid brass wood screws.
I spotted a 3/4dr Bonney HD socket I need for a set, but the vendor didn’t want to separate it from a sequence of other USA 3/4dr sockets he was calling a set. He finally suggested $10, but I will see another one for less. On the drive home (during which I topped up my tank for $50), I thought maybe I could have found the same size socket in a different brand at a regular vendor that has a lot of 3/4dr stuff, and swapped him for the Bonney. Maybe. But again, warming up early today, got other stuff to do, and not in the right mood to do that level or horsetrading.

There is a reseller that used to visit my sales and acted like that. Every time he lowballed a price, I would raise it higher. He stopped coming.
That's what I do. I was selling a Craftsman snowblower that was like new for $250. Just didn't need it anymore and wanted it our of the way. Guy offered me $175, I counted with $275. We haggled for a few minutes and he bought it for $260.🤷🏼‍♂️
