I used to be a "If it ain't Snap-On it ain't Sh1t" type of guy (I still hold them in high regard). But I've found that there's some stuff out there as good or better! The Mac RBRT or USAG 285-X branded version of the same wrench is a fraction of the price of SO Flank Drives: $128
vs $674
The MAC Precision Torques have become my Go To and if I lived in the Rust Belt the RBRTs would probably be my go to (I just gravitate more towards 12pt vs 6pt and am waiting for an opportunity to put the 285-X to the test). I used Snap-On wrenches in the past and know first hand how good they are but I honestly prefer the feel of the MAC/FACOM/USAG design in my hand.

Yeah I know that the Avg Mech isn't going to mail order the USAG and wait a month and end up with something difficult to warranty, BUT for us part timers I'll take something that out performs the SO on rusted fasteners for a fraction of the price.

And you don't need to take my word for it:
Also Facom now sells them as well (both the milder profile with 12pt box and the aggressive 6pt box end version).

What I find most cool about this, is that the more common the "advanced" profiles become on the high end tools, the more it will also trickle down to the bargain tools.

Williams Ratcheting Screwdriver

Cheaper than Snap-On and made in USA. Never owned a ratcheting screwdriver and was wondering why o hadn’t bought one before after receiving it.

Like $35 cheaper if I'm not mistaken--and occasionally found for half the Snap-On equivalent.

I made the mistake of ordering mine through the local Applied branch instead of Zoro--back in February. They were supposed to call when it showed up, but haven't yet. I suppose I should call them myself, but they did say lead times were nuts. Most of my current ratcheting screwdrivers are ****. +

I would cancel the order and get a refund if you are still waiting. Suncoast (where I bought mine) has them in stock with free shipping.

I didn't have to pay until they showed up, which was a good thing.

If they're at the store, and they just forgot to call, great. If they're still on backorder, I will cancel. Besides, part of the order was two Proto hex bit sockets I had lost, but later found that need to be cancelled anyway.

Anyone know who makes these Snap On Blue Point Made in US rolling Dog Box toolboxes? When it's called Blue Point I think that means Snap On outsources manufacturer. These say made in US. At $500 Snap On price, it's steep but if I found it closer to $350 without the Snap On logo, that would be more interesting.

I own both. Both are made in USA. The Williams came with Snap-on bits. The handle on the Williams is fatter and has a different feel. I use the Snap-on one way more.

18" x 10" x 13.25"

I suspect this is a snap on made item, not a rebrand.

I used to think Blue Point meant imported. And someone here posted that Blue Point means rebranded, which sometimes are imported, sometimes are US-made rebrands like from a Lisle or a Mayhew.

So if Blue Points could be made in-house, in the US, then I dont know what that term means.

A vast majority of Blue Point items are rebranded/private labeled. Some of them are USA made. My favorite example of this would be locking extensions - Mac rebrands them too. Snap On will sell things under the Blue Point name to not dilute the SO brand, but still be able to offer it.

Now that you've got me looking at wheeled cantilever toolboxes, this one caught my eye. This one is offered by Bahco, another SO brand. Not sure what the COO is.

Though not "tool-truck" per se, I found the cheap knockoff version of the Lisle Stud Installer 22800 works well enough for shade-tree mechanics. Not sure if the bearing would hold up to repeated use to the same level, but good enough for me, and was next-day shipping vs. just under $40 from O'Reilly/NAPA/etc

Lisles is cheaper though right? JB tools has it for just over 20 bucks. With Tax and Shipping for me it was just under 30

Edit: Sorry, I see the amazon one is $8.99!

The same Lisle was ~$20-25 at amazon, still Lisle at the auto parts places but $35-40 to have it on the shelf. The no-name I linked to used the same part number 22800, but was not a Lisle product (just made basically identically, but for under $10). With it being eligable for Prime next day shipping, vs 2-day for the Lisle (IIRC), I figured I would try it. Worked ok for the two studs I needed it for.

Though I didn't have this issue, one reviewer commented the bearing would come loose, as it wasn't held in by much on the back end of theirs.

Might need a 2nd opinion on these:

Matco Tools Heavy-Duty Scissors HDSCC80

are rebadged Mueller-Kueps 905 070

Pretty sure these Vampliers were the old Matco Scissors:

Angled versions appear to be unique to Matco.

Apologies if this has been covered here…

I was watching a YouTube video the other day, and in it a Caterpillar employee confirmed that many Cat branded hand tools are in fact rebranded SnapOn tools and compared some in the video.

I watch his videos too, great channel. As far as I know and can tell, many of Cats products are in fact Snap On. Not everything however, just gotta dive into what youre interested in.

Im currently searching how to find the 4 ways. Much much cheaper than Snap On

Without having to read through 12 years of responses, what was the end state of this question and what did it lead too?
There are a lot of equivalents or near-equivalents. This also keeps changing as some cheap brands owned by conglomerates that also own tool-truck brands introduce new tools rebranded from tool-truck brand tools.

There are very few tools that are completely exclusive to tool truck brands, often you get identical stuff cheaper somewhere...

Handshake hell, more like a steak dinner!
Lol yes for sure! Since ive been lurking, ill just go ahead and ask. The CAT socket sets I see online are hard to tell from the picture (at least in my case) but I cannot find a 1/2" deep metric socket set. 6 point. I found their 12 points and SAE variants. Anyone have time to do some looking for a part number? Thanks in advance!

I’ll let you guys know when I’m free for dinner 😝 I can double check, but I think you are correct. Maybe can go impact to get 6 point, not sure though.

I'm hoping to find out and I'll let you know. I've only found the 12 points, but I believe there is a larger catalog out there somewhere. Those angle wrenches are about the same as Snap-On. I just got a quote from local CAT. SAE set is $422 and Metric set is $559.

I'm also thinking the ratchets are the old tooth sets. It says working arc is 12 degrees for the 1/4" unit. The Dual 80 is 5 degrees. Just an FYI...

Hi,
Does anyone know who makes the Snap On 1/4 inch drive keyless drill chuck holder or can recommend another similar sized reliable alternative?

The COO on the Snap On website says Taiwan. Thank you!

Looking for cheap alternative to koken nut grip, wera zyklop, or tone locking sockets. I like the look of the kokens just having trouble spending the coin not really seeing anything better

I've only ever seen the nutgrips...nothing like it that I can remember. In fact, I didn't realize that Tone made a similar style or I would have done a more in depth search on them before I opted for the nut grips. I have been waiting on purchasing the nutgrips for many many months, and finally got a 1/4" set on black friday. Not that this helps you much in looking for an alternative but the nutgrips are phenominal. I use them as a daily driver for my 1/4" stuff. I went with 1/4" just to see if I like them and I've already started considering buying a 3/8" set on their next sale. Hope this helps!
