yeah i already have enough wifi APs, i don't wan...can't add a second ZWAP to each spot/location. plus the APs i got are built to handled many devices. one thing about wifi i want something that can be used and setup LAN side no cloud. i don't even like having to use cloud to set it up and then go LAN mode. it has to support HomeAssistant.

I think the 800 series zwave stuff should make large sites/outbuildings a lot easier to deal with. I don't know how well this plays out in real life, but SI specs on 800 series LR zWave are pretty promising. Hubitat supports zwave LR, but you need the C8 hub or better. Regardless, a healthy mesh on a larger installation should be much easier. I have some 800 series switches (Zen72), but a C7 hub active. C8 hub is the upgrade/spare that I keep on hand so would need to get this live to take advantage of zWave long range (800 series) tech.

Longer battery lifeThe Z-Wave 800 series reduces transmit current up to 42% and reduces receiver current up to 600% compared to Z-Wave 700 hardware, delivering up to 10 years of battery life with a coin cell.
Extended wireless rangeThe Z-Wave 800 series can achieve range up to 1.5 miles, a 50% increase compared to the Z-Wave 700 series, therefore delivering wireless connectivity well beyond the yard.

How is the app?

MyQ has recently "upgraded" their app and I now not only get pop-up ads for sh!t they want me to buy, but it's so large it covers the "open / close" button. Extra bonus - the app sends me notifications so I think my door was left open ... nope ... notification is simply that they are having a sale. This is an absolutely horrendous user experience and I'm willing to do whatever the hell it takes to get rid of Chamberlain/MyQ.

just keep in mind this includes concrete under ground and, metal buildings. i eventually just started trenching bundles of direct burial cat6 to each location form centeral Power Over Ethernet switch on a big azz battery back up. and put up a ubiquiti AP at each spot and just get a wifi sensor/switch where needed. each AP can handle 20-40 devices, with a few exceptions that can handle 200 devices. further locations use wifi-meshing and receive power only. the whole point o z wave was to take load off of wifi but, i built a serious cat6/cat6a 10gig capable infrastructure with enterprise APs, in fact ubiquiti is quickly becoming the defacto prosumer standard.

not as efficient as z wave as you are pointing out. idk if it's long rangs as Lora Wan which is like 1 to 2 miles of rang through dirt, steel and concrete but, lora wan is only good for basic text as far as bandwith. i bet z wave is the inbetween. oh yeah also i try to not run my devices off of battery power. also t z wave credit it's stuck around so far, it's not a dead fad yet.

and thats why i use home assistant and devices that work with home assistant, i my roll my own. there is no business anymore only class warfare between CEOs and consumers. adversarial transactions. no consumer protections. you pay them money and they pork you.

I got one of these MEROSS MSG100... I like it, it's solid. I Like the "overtime time" close feature...it lets you set an auto close option after whatever time you choose. I set mine to 15 minutes, so if i drive off without closing the door, it will auto close after the set time elapses.

I recently replaced my Insignia Homekit opener with the Meross. The Insignia was giving me fits between the tiny battery going out on the door status unit or the main box having to be power cycled.
The Meross has been flawless since I installed it. In fact, all of the Meross Homekit devices in the house work really well.

I am sorry - really not being a smart-A here. WHY does anybody (your mother for sure) want to be able to open a garage door from a smart phone? Isn't it a lot easier to just reach up and press a button when you pull into your driveway? Instead of picking up a phone, unlocking, finding an app, opening the app, and sending a command to open? Homelink has been in all cars for like 20 years, and if you struggle to program it, you can get a mini opener for only a few bucks and velcro it to your windshield?

I've found it nice to be able to check the state of the door from my phone and have used it a couple times to open/close my door while outside but not in my car.

If you don't have a use for it, don't get it 🤷

Been using this with Home Assistant for a few years now. Works great. My regular door opener clickers still work just fine as well.

I often open my garage door while walking the dogs, mowing (fuel, oil, leaf blower to clean, etc), riding my motorcycle or ebikes. If I go outside to do something I close the door to keep heat / AC in. I also open it using Siri when the housekeeper or other service workers need access and I'm not home.

People have reasons for using their garage doors other than parking a car inside.

I have had this hooked up to my Liftmaster for around 2 years now. I have the one that has "MATTER" installed. Its a protocol that works with IOS natively and doesn't require and extra app. Because of the Liftmaster signal codes they did provide a extra remote to plug into it so it will open and close the garage.

My home for some reason will not allow signals to pass through the walls and open the garage doors. I could be in the driveway inches from the door clicking the clicker a million times for it to eventually open.

Now I could be miles away and while driving I say "Hey Siri open the Garage" and when I get to the driveway the door is opened.

I get notifications every time my Garage Door opens and closes and it will alert me if its been opened for more than 15 minutes. I have had my wife call me at work saying she couldn't remember if she closed the garage door or not. Just in tools alone this is a great piece of mind.

For forty bucks the quality life improvement is worth it, plus there is no subscriptions like the MyQ!

I have had the Meross wifi version installed for a year or so now. My opener is an older Genie. The setup was pretty simple, and have it integrated into my Home Assistant environment. Its been pretty solid. I recall it did not like being segregated from the internet, and would misbehave after an internet outage. I have it set up on a subnet that has internet access, but has very resistricted access to my network. This works fine for it, and Im ok with that arrangement.

Aside from the flexibility of controlling from anywhere, I have automations set up to check if the door is open (or opened) when no one is home, and a reminder if the door is open for more than 5 minutes after sunset.

I also have a camera in the garage pointed at the door, so I can confirm the coast is clear before closing the door remotely. In my Home Assistant setup, I have the camera and the door control on the same page for convenience.

A lot of HOAs nowadays require personal garages to be left open during the day (9-5). Soon, they'll ban garage doors altogether.
What in the HOA fahckery is this? I'd love to see the citation on this.

I have no problems letting my neighbors place limits on my behavior - that's how big-boys live in a society with laws. But HOA stories are legendarily nonsense around this page. But letting a couple of hundred people, at most, tell me what position my garage should be in is insane.

I've got a pair of chamberlain products, one requires an adapter and one has it built in, but MyQ has been treating me well enough for the purposes.

I have been very, very, very happy since I installed ratdgo devices on both of my LiftMaster openers that were originally configured with that MyQ garbage.

local control - check
No internet chatting up some random server on the internet - check
Easy to install - check
Integrates with Home Assistant - check
Added bonus is getting more sensors/data than was ever possible with MyQ.

Paul did a great job with the engineering. I know Chamberlain is working feverishly to break any compatibility with anything but MyQ but if your model works with ratgdo, I cannot recommend it enough.

I am not disrespecting the Meross device, I don't have any personal experience with it.

I just happened to read about this thing yesterday, it seems like a great solution.

I will give this a shot, thank you.

I just received another "notification" yesterday on my MyQ app - so of course I open the app to see if something was left open. Nope. The notification was just to let me know of their sale on cameras. Seriously F@#$k this company and anything they touch. My buddy owns a garage door install franchise and I was getting ready to call him to throw him some business and have new openers installed just to get rid of Chamberlain/ MyQ.

I will give this a shot, thank you. Their site has no installation instructions - if I order it, will it come with them? I consider myself decently capable but I only understand what it does at a surface level, without instructions I would be lost.
