Welcome to Garage Journal ladies and gentlemen, please enjoy your stay and become productive members of GJ. This site is full of great advice and information from very experienced DIY'ers and Professionals willing to share their vast knowledge.

If you are searching for knowledge with questions, one thing you'll get advised to do is put a location in your profile. While it's not mandatory, it does aid your fellow GJ members in giving you the best advice. Since different parts of the US & Canada have different building codes, styles and weather, what may work for one member may not work for another. Keep in mind, we have members from all over the world, including Australia, NZ, across the pond in Europe, down in Africa, literally I believe every continent is represented.

A specific location isn't needed, just a general area helps. It can be as simple as Chicago area, Northwest Ohio, panhandle of Florida or SoCal. Remember this is voluntary, so it isn't required but it is helpful to you and fellow members.

Moderator Edit: Putting in following locations like, " GARAGE" "ATTACHED" "DETACHED" "OUT THERE" "MY MIND" does nothing to help you get the correct information nor does it help your fellow member give you the proper advice.

If you'd like to add a location to your profile, just move up the the black band and click on "User CP" On the next page, left side click on "Edit your Details" and under "Additional Information", you'll see "Location". Just enter your location and click "Save Changes"

Thank you for your time and cooperation, please enjoy your time at GJ.

Re: Location in your profile

This also helps if your looking for something for something in your area a member may have, or if you need a hand with something. A local member may be near by to lend a hand.

Sometimes while were discussing something the part of the country your located in makes a difference . Merry Christmas or happy holidays if you are one of the many other faiths.

MODERATOR EDIT: If you not sure how to add you're location to your profile, this should help you.

Yes, there is, I made the thread and sticky trying to get the new crop of members to get their location on there from the get go. Unfortunately, alot of them still don't do it but I believe more of them add it now as to opposed to before I made that sticky.

Maybe, it's an issue of not knowing how to do it ?
:dunno:

EDIT: I edited the OP to add directions on how to update your profile.

OMG.....so I am not the only one that thinks this should be required! About time. How many times do we have to waste our time asking "where do you live!". Something between 'Earth" and "Smithville". Ok.....I'm done....again.......

Flyguy and Firewhirl, both of you have missed the purpose of this thread. Please put your location in your PROFILE so readers can see where you are without looking up this posting.

Most of my gained practical experience deals with things on the left coast, and when I see someone asking questions that do not pertain to my data base, I have no choice but to move on and hope others have the answers needed. Life on the eastern seaboard can be very different.
