Found: 1945 Kent Moore Work Station

A while back, my brother Keith gotta call from someone looking to unload some furniture from an old car dealership somewhere in Texas. It didn’t take long for the guy to mention part of the haul was a Kent Moore Work Station believed to be from 1945. It took even less time for Keith to come to terms with the asking price.

But now, reality has set in… Neither of us have the space for this setup and it would be a shame to part it out. So, here I am… hat in hand… wondering if anyone has a scratch that can’t be itched by anything other than an old work station. If so, drop me a PM and I will get you hooked up with Keith.

The units are all in pretty decent shape. They have bumps and bruises from being moved around by forklifts through the years, but they still present great and there doesn’t appear to be any real rust anywhere. If you have the space and agree with the aesthetic, these would work just fine as is.

BUT… If you have the time and the inclination, these units would be nothing short of incredible restored. And man, that would be a fun project. He’s looking to get around $10k, but is accepting offers.

Well aren't those purty! Someone is going to have fun. I didn't search, what can these bring restored? >$20K USA? More?

When my garage cabinets are worth more than my daily-driver, I need an adjustment.

I was told a restored set of one cabinet and one service manager stand went for 22k on BAT, but I can’t seem to find it.

I didn’t price this set. Keith did. But it seems reasonable to me? Regardless, he’s taking offers.

Really nice find. I'm sure they'll find a good home and happy to see it isn't headed to a scrap yard in any case. ;)

Amazing!!! I often wonder how many shops/dealerships actually had these in the day.

It will be interesting to see them re-done, though someone really well-off could decide to keep the 'patina' and just give them a good cleaning, and fix what needs to be.

The two websites I posted, I haven't seen any pricing. Nor have I been able to find any sales info.

It must be my cheapskate ways, or just what I've seen around here when it comes to prices. I think you're going to be hard pressed to turn 10k on these cabinets. They are super cool and the best news is that they are not rust buckets but you're looking at a ton of work and expense to restore these properly. Your average garage guy will be in way over his head on these.

When I see the terms "KMO" and "1945" together, I think of jeeps. KMO supplied all the special service tools for overhauling jeep engines, transmissions, and axles, used at 4th and 5th echelon maintenance depots. I particularly like the "turret" with the rotobins and rotoboards inside. If I squint, I can just picture them all in OD green. And I do need a place to store my KMO carb kit. :)

These belong in a museum, can’t be many remaining.

That red and blue burns my eyes!

I've got one of the round cabinets, came out of a Lincoln Mercury dealership about 40 years ago. I did have two of them, but loaned one to a now ex brother-in-law and never saw it again.

Those are pretty cool. They would be awesome in some place Henry Ford Museum, Roush Headquarters or another automotive office setting.

BTW, I also learned Ryan has a brother. He a member here by chance or does Ryan keep him banned ?

There is an amazing automobile museum in Anchorage Alaska that those cabinets would fit right in. They even have their own work area with glass windows so visitors can see the work being done. From what I recall, it was the largest privately held collection of vehicles in the country.
