Welcome Home Fellas…

Well fellas… For many of you, your worst nightmare has been realized. And for others, your wildest dreams have come true. After over a decade on antiquated forum software, The Garage Journal has FINALLY been updated to a more future proof and secure platform – Xenforo.

This endeavor has taken over a year to complete. Migrating such a large and robust forum is an incredibly challenging endeavor and one that, quite frankly, I was not excited about doing. While I am always game for change and challenge, I hate putting others through an experience of uncertainty and confusion. So this is me, hat in hand, approaching you with a new Garage Journal and hoping that you are willing to give me and the new site a chance.

If not, I get it… Some folks aren’t down for change and this is, after all, just a message board for garages and tools. Good luck and I wish you nothing but the best.

If you are, however… From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Sincerely. I appreciate the faith and promise to work my tail off to get you comfortable and happy with this new environment.

But how about this new environment? Obviously, we now have a ton of new features to explore and take advantage of – including things like easier image uploads, user tagging, a like system, activity streams, and much more… In the coming days and weeks, I will be building a tutorial section to show off these shiny new features as well as show you guys how you can use them to improve your own experience.

Of course, it would be impossible for me to expect such a large migration to come without bugs. We’ve worked really hard over the last few weeks to iron out as many of them as we could find, but I am confident there are plenty that snuck in under the radar. If you find something, feel free to start a thread in the bug/feedback forum found here.

Also, your constructive feedback is important to me. If you see something that doesn’t jive with your sensibilities you can post it here as well. I can’t promise to make every change requested, but I do hope to get as many people happy as I can.

***

Again, fellas… Thanks so much for your patience and understanding throughout all of this. I can’t tell ya how much everyone (my wife and I) here at Atomic HQ appreciate it. This has been a really stressful few weeks and I need some sleep in a major way, but I am so happy to have this done and can’t wait to get on with showing the new joint off!

Hey guys... We opened the forum much sooner than we had planned... There are a lot of formatting things we are working and little things that haven't been fixed quite yet, but I didn't want to keep y'all locked out for so long.

Thank you Ryan for providing this place for us to hang out and share information. My first impression is that the site looks like a comfortable place to be. Nice job on the design. I'm looking forward to exploring the sites new capabilities. I'm particularly eager to see how image uploads work. Maybe it'll be easy enough that I'll update my shop built thread! It's pretty out of date.

Roger on the font guys... I will put that on my list. However, please list things like that in our suggestion/bug list found here.

I like what i see so far, very cool! Digging the colors/ theme, and attaching pictures seems like it should be easier like how it is on the HAMB. Im completely ignorant on the behind the scenes stuff on how forums are made/run, but it seems like a huge amount of work and time, and we all appreciate it!

Love the new system. Posting photos and editing is a snap and I like that fact that you can upvote other posters.

Is Garage Journel now part of the same group that owns Ramcharger Central? I ask as they also just recently updated to this same forum software.

Nice & thanks Ryan!

I used to prefer vB but now a days I prefer XF much more. There are things I miss about vB but XF overall is much better IMO. So glad you made the switch!

What a huge amount of work, great job. Old eyes are having trouble with the font. Is there a way to increase contrast between the back round and text? Is this something that I can adjust?

Looks great on my PC and tablet! Thanks Ryan, and to your wife also for making this available to us! After a career mostly in IT I understand what you have been through, and am truly grateful for your efforts on our behalf! This rates a WooHoo or two!

And here come all the complaints..... for days. :D

Give Ryan a break, it's gonna take some time to fine tune everything. Migrating a forum to new software is not easy. I'm surprised he got us back up as quick as he did.
