What size sockets have you personally used on tire lugnuts?

My cars have used 3/4", 13/16" and 19 mm. One time, a plastic cap fell of the lugnut for my 1991 Chevy Cavalier, so I had to use an 18 mm instead of 19.

I have also worked on a teacher's truck which used 7/8" lugnuts.

Why have I seen some 4-way tire wrenches that have 11/16"? LOL.

I think there is some older tractors and equipment that use 11/16. My grandpas 2n tractor may, I forget though. I've got a 22.5 mm and 19.5mm sockets too mostly for Chrysler stuff

Have a 1/2" drive breaker bar with short extension with 19 mm socket that I always use for tire changes/rotation. Only use a tire iron or 4 way when I can't find the breaker bar !! ;)

Usually 17 or 19mm. But recently, a whopping 3".

Yeah, it's a big socket!

ok guys 19mm is a 3/4 almost on the money exactly :willy_nil 17, 19, 21, 22 on a daily basis.

I disagree. On my Chevy Cavalier, which officially used 19 mm, I could not use a 3/4" socket. Likewise, I could not use a 3/8" Allen bit/socket on my brake calipers; I had to go buy a 10 mm one, even though most kits didn't have that size.

Hmm...19 and 3/4 are by maths near perfect, whereas 3/8 and 10mm are wayyy off. Maybe the wall thicknesses were off...expecially with impacts ...(not using thinwalls maybe?)...

19mm, 21mm, 3/4, and 15/16 are most common sizes on cars and light trucks. Every now and then we used to use 1-1/8 on older trucks

Hmmmm...I forget whether the 3/4" didn't fit or was too loose. I know my lugnuts had silvery plastic caps to look like metal and these sometimes fell off. But even with them on, I had to use 19 mm. Oh well. Glad I no longer have to drive that Chevy!

Possibly because not all 4-way wrenches are tailor made for your needs?

Big world out there.

I use 19mm unless the cap falls off, then 18mm. Also the same for the 21mm and if the cap falls off, 20mm. The 20mm also comes in handy for the swollen 19mm (prior to the cap falling off).

Most older cars were 3/4 or 13/16. The smaller was all GM and Chrysler and the larger was all Fords. But since probably the late 80's all that changed and metric and other sizes came it. I have a Ford pickup that takes 1 1/16 for those nuts. The major thing is "use the right size" not just what you have on the impact.

My older cars used 3/4", my newer one 19 mm. I've used them interchangeably. I've also used 17, 21 & 22 mm and 13/16", and more recently 30 and 55 mm.

Mostly 17mm, 19mm, 21mm and 22mm on stock rims, I've done a few 12mm hex on aftermarket wheels that spline lugs don't fit.

Sometimes 13/16" and 1" on light pickups and 33mm for class 4 and up.

Also have 18.5mm, 19.5mm, 20mm, 21.5mm, 23mm and 24mm for those swollen chrome caps.

Lastly spiral flute/turbo lug sockets for lost wheel locks.
