Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I recently inherited a million tools so I have been spending the past week going through all of them and putting sets together... I have way to many tools and not enough garage space! Sounds crazy I know but you have to see what im working with! The best part is there is alot of vintage snap on tools so ive been having a blast hooking them up!

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Not all today, but this weekend I...

fixed the power window in the wife's Caravan (major brownie points there)
sleeved the rear wheel cylinders for my old convertible
organized the sockets in my box (don't laugh that's actually a bigger task than it sounds)
painted the trim on the back door
painted the visible gas pump
started to clean/organize the truck tools for the tow vehicle (got about 1/2 done)
cleaned the lathe and then dirtied it again
polished the crank for my old convertible

****! I didn't think I actually got as much done as I did! I did better than I thought ;-)

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I've been building a work bench. I decided to experiment a little and see what comes of it. So, I grabbed some extra slats off of some old pallets and cover the top and bottom portions of the table. I'm also sectioning off the top with some cedar boards. The kind used on a privacy fence. There is a bit of an edge on top, so I will try to fill it with some kind of poxy resin and create a clear coat top on it. I probably won't use it as a work bench now, but I can have an extra table in the garage for various uses.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Not a hell of a lot...picked up a 7 drawer side box at HF yesterday PM...figured I had enough room under the vise to just set it on the floor under the workbench and add additional tool storage...wrong! had to move a couple of support legs on the bench to get it in (I was 3/8" too narrow)...started shuttling tools from the main box to the add on...didn't seem to be working out as I had hoped...I now have some empty drawers in the main box, but I'm not comfortable with how things are laying out...back to the drawing board.

This is the cabinet I built to hold some of my tools. It is 48" tall, 92" wide, and 28" deep. I am thinking about putting some pegboard on the inside of the doors to hold light stuff like carpenter squares, hand saws, and small hardware.

I am NOT a cabinet maker (yet) and I was proud of myself because the doors open and close properly and do not rub or squeak anywhere. I don't like the gap where the doors meet, so I may have to dream up some kind of trim or something to close up this gap.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I've been working on my pickup -

Replaced the gas tank - cleaned, undercoated, new straps, fuel filter and paint.
th_2011-11-14_19-29-43_405.jpgth_2011-11-14_20-38-18_181.jpgth_2011-11-19_23-38-25_68.jpg

I had broken springs and rotted out hangers - those had to go.
th_2011-11-11_19-14-46_599.jpgth_2011-11-19_16-10-45_408.jpg

A few week ago I did a timing chain, water pump, crank pulley, balancer, transmission swap and yanked a header to weld nuts on a broken header bolt to remove it from the head.

th_2011-10-18_21-30-14_897.jpg

Last night I did some super ghetto exhaust work - I booger welded in a chunk of pipe I had to cut to get to the transmission lines (trans swap) and I hacked off the blown glasspacks and hastily clamped on a new Thrush muffler and hung it with a ratchet strap. About as redneck as it gets, but it's a LOT quieter now and will last just long enough to get it to the exhaust shop next week. This is a plow truck - it might get 1 mile on it before the exhaust.

and then dropped it in here

Wow, how did you get it in there with the brake booster in place? I really loved my '72 and '78, but I gotta admit the new booster and heater box design for '79 and up made it easier to work on them.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I think there already is a long standing thread like this, but it's good to see people are still active. I feel like a slug looking at what others accomplished.

I got the fun car put away for the winter, checked brakes and cleaned wheels:

Then got an old snow blower running after a 3 year hibernation. Are they supposed to look like this?

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

- Built the last 2 cabinets of the window seat and bookcases for our son's nursery - sounds like he may be coming a couple weeks early based on my wife's doctor appointment this morning.
- Re-built a shelf over the area where I keep trash cans since the town's trash company issued 65 gallon trash and recycling totes last week
- Cleaned up a bunch of **** from using my garage as a woodworking shop the last 5+ months - time to make room for both vehicles for the winter.
- Washed, waxed, and cleaned the interior of my wife's Escape just in time for 4 straight days of rain and snow.
