Probably have order online as my wife wants to come on my next trip...I guess I've proven letting me go unsupervised is not a great idea.

Edit added missed word
If she's never been, one of 2 things are going to happen, either she's going to have a good time and want to go back...win....or she won't have a good time and won't go back....win.

The wife went with me and she didn't complain as we were on vacation...
She really liked Jori's recommendation of eating at Q39.

I missed it last year for some stupid reason but I’ll probably be in this year. Though the irony is that I’ll be getting no US-made tools. Too many good Japanese and Euro tools at HJE to not be tempted…

I'm getting in on this this year.

I just need to hold off buying stuff from them for the time being. Their pricing is very good and they aren't some e commerce drop ship store.

I've bought some felo, Koken, Knipex and some Japanese pliers from them in the past few months. I even bought a couple of the chicken surprises.

I thought I was going to get to go back to Leavenworth in June for a course and make a trip to HJE, but alas the course was changed to virtual. Maybe I'll make it sometime.

I have never participated, are there special deals?
It varies year to year but typically there are always discounts on NOS items. There’s been deals on Wright, Channellock, Norseman and more.

I know that it also helps a family company keep the lights on in a part of Kansas City that’s changed a lot over the last few decades.

Just tossing it out there, but maybe let's focus less on the SWAG giveaways and more on the AMERICAN made tools. That's what this whole thing is about or at least what it was originally about.

Also I guess while I'm ranting, seems like HJE is moving further and further away from USA made tools every year. The only new items in the first 5 pages of the "new arrivals" section are Channellock pliers and Council axes at full retail prices it seems. The list, however, is heavily populated with a lot of foreign made tools and closeout items that don't even support current USA manufacturers - it's just a retail/wholesale liquidation.

I know American manufacturing is dwindling but maybe the whole point of this July 4th American made push at a retailer that previously focused on that aspect needs to be revisited. The whole idea of focusing on American made tools on July 4th was that people vote with their dollars.

For those that are going to reply back I have purchased plenty from HJE.

You realize it is getting almost impossible to source quantities of American-made tools? I suspect HJE would do so IF they could. But you cannot have a functional business with next to no stock. It is logical that they try to fill in their selection and shelves with quality production from other places if they cannot source domestic.

Just my $0.02....

I think HJE Day is about American tools AND real people at an old fashioned, walk in hardware store that are happy that you shop there and are happy to help you. This is a vanishing part of the American experience.

HJE Day is an O/L way for me to support a store that I've never had the pleasure to visit but makes me happy to know it exists.

Again, just my opinion.
