So I've been poking around the journal for a month or so and am totally hooked. I enjoy the garage sharing and the fantastic pic,s
after reading your threads and comments I feel like I know some of you well
and find much in common with you folks so i want to share those things in my life that makes getting up each morning fun and exciting

6 years ago my wife and I decided to move to a new city to start a new lifestyle we wanted to consolidate our things (my cars were in a storge facility)
our collectables were in boxes in the attic or in the garage in my way and my wife wanted to start an internet craft business So we started looking for a piece of property that would meet our needs

WE found a nice property that was 3 acres long and narrow with a horse barn and coral and completly landscaped

we bought it and moved in april 2006
I started the permit process to build my dream garage
3 years later and way too much $$$$ in fees we were granted permission to start construction on my 12,000 ft tin building

The horse coral was 200' long and 80' wide the fence came down and survey sticks went in

we had over two hundred people partying and celebrating our new venture
we broke ground by digging out 3 feet of dirt in the rear of the building
moving 55 feet forward and digging down 3 more feet and raising the front of the pad 4 feet because the pad has a 10 foot slope in 165 feet

started wetting down the dirt for compaction

using the laser screed sure makes the pour out much easer
and no bird baths in the floor (very flat and level)

you can see the step in the rear section of the building
we waited a couple of days before we finished the pour
concrete is too hard a job for me. I am lucky my cousin is a
great guy that is willing to help me out.

The building in the background was the horse barn
while we waited for the building permit we dismantled the barn
poured a slab and rebuilt the barn raising it 4 feet higher and
extending it 20 feet making a 36 x 60 foot work shop great little
body shop out there. The previous owner had 3 phase power put in the barn

Holy ****. 12,000 sq. ft.? So what does that make the barn size, 80 x 150?

I am so jealous right now.

Don,

A great build is on the way for all of us to see and share in. Thank you for taking the time to share with us, all that you have completed on the Big Party Garage. Will be following your build out progress and looking at your extensive collections. Think this will be a great story and I am looking forward to your next post to your thread.

Because it took sooo long to get the building permit and I had found a great deal on the building it sat in the back yard in the dirt for over a year collecting mud and rodants and such.

don long, on Flickr

we waited a few weeks after the second pour for the concrete to cure. we started to bolt the iron beams down onto the floor and within a couple of days the building started to take shape.

51 by don long, on Flickr

The first problem I had after the beams were up was all that dirt on the steel
so I got out the pressure washer and went to town and that ugly oxblood red primer had to go
The next issue was not getting paint on the floor while using an airless sprayer to paint all of the beams with gray paint
The remity was a day laborer from home depot and the pressure washer below while I painted above.

Don,

If you had that building here in the PacNoWest, I think you would have to figure out how to keep it from raining indoors! Wow, that is some building! Looking forward to seeing more.

What area were you at in Ohio? You probably could have hooked up with a member wherever you were at. It seems there are quite a few from Ohio. North, south, east, and west in the state.

Never seen a laser screed but I like it a lot. You must be in some type of construction or your cousin is. The pic of the slab is nothing short of epic. You could run flat track motorcycles in there.

next question is what to do with all that room left in front of the garage
and how do you discuise a tin building ???????

I know I'll put 10 doors down the left side will that do it???
How about building a Sinclair gas station on front of it? YEA THATS IT

Here we go

49211273171_672737a0fd_z.jpg91 by don long, on Flickr

49211312761_8d743fdce7_z.jpg76a by don long, on Flickr

49210788828_49803e5215_z.jpg79b by don long, on Flickr

the building was lifted 4ft in the front to keep the floor level so now we have to build up the front of the pad and still maintane the orig. height of the driveway because of the grass next to it
So I built a retainer wall with steps

This is a shot of the yard to the left of the building
we did tip the driveway with D.G. as much as we could
My thoughts were that the cars would display well in the grass
so I wanted to be able to back out of the garage onto the grass and not fall off the driveway.

49211558312_e11e5fa8a3_z.jpg544 by don long, on Flickr

and in the front of the building we started the gas station.

49211327631_7230a92e6e_z.jpg105 by don long, on Flickr

you can see we also poured a driveway to the garage door
built in a planter and layed down pavers on the left side of the big planter

The stucco is finished and the design for the 10 side doors is decided on

49278200363_642da7ac95_z.jpg111 by don long, on Flickr

I forgot to tell you that when the side doors were hung there was a 6" gap at the top of the door sooo we sure had an oppertunity (problem) solved it with stucco.

so the exterior is 90% complete we can consentrate on the inside so back inside the diner
I built a bar found some used booths with chinese print and ordered bar stools and chairs on line found a set of belt driven fan at a yard sale and had oak shelves left over from our old house

49278694411_600fa43b2b_z.jpg173b (1) by don long, on Flickr

when the chairs came in I took one with me along with the booths and told the apolsteror to match the chair they turned out super

49278223798_2c2722416a_z.jpg173b (3) by don long, on Flickr

the kitchen is a full operating kitchen with all comercial (used) equipment
fridge triple sink gas grille and grittle freezer and soda pop cooler
ice machine and stainless work table and shelves it sits 25 customers (friends)
so it's party on
