what does P and C stand for. is it short for proto/challenger? or something else
thanks
I started work at P &C October 1962 till June 1990. the P & C line was phased out in the late 70s to Proto when the Proto plant in Los Angeles was shut down
then in 1990 Proto was moved to Texas
I live about 1 mile from where the plant WAS it now is a Parking Lot

Living near Portland, I have found it easy to find P&C tools. They are easier to find Plomb. Most people have never even heard of P&C tools, so they pass them by. I had a guy at work a few years ago give me a 16 inch P&C adjustable wrench because he had never heard of that brand of tools before. If it does not come off of a tool truck, he does not want it. I have not found a P&C tool box, but I did find a Plomb tool box several weeks ago at a garage sale.
Gort.

P&C Hand Forged Tools was founded in 1920 as a blacksmith shop in Boise, Idaho. The founders were John N. Peterson and Charles F. Carlborg, both Swedish immigrants and both highly skilled as blacksmiths and machinists. Within a few years P&C had moved to Oregon, first to Lebanon, Oregon and then to Milwaukee (a suburb of Portland). By 1923 the P&C Hand Forged Tool Company was listed in the Polk's Portland City Directory, a business directory covering the Portland area.
You got any old pics of the factory? I work with someone who toured the factory in the very early 60's as a highschooler, and he said all he really remembered was that it was dark and dirty. Info about the brand is very scarce, you could do MUCH to enlighten us; I would love to hear more!
I've heard many times it was in Milwaukee, but I have no idea exactly where. Would love to know where.

Lurker no more!!!
This is the most informative thread that I have found on P&C, so it's time to come out of the closet.
Still looking for pictures in the 100s of old pics I have. Note the P&C tools that are NOT chromed were made before & during WW2 some time after the war they started having them Chrome Plated in 1997 they installed there own Plating unit Building. I have a 6016-s socket !/2 " socket foe a 1/2" sq. nut or bolt that came off the first rack of sockets that were plated. I dipped it in hot wax and it is tagged and in my tool box. See pic along with ! of the tool stamps I have along with my Maint. coverall tags.Allso the pics of the 3 foot long 3/8 speed handle & 3/4 drive ratchet from WW2
Speaking of P&C Stuff. I found this little guy at the flea market yesterday. I/4" drive, and 5 inches long, and works great. I did try and google it, and looked at A.A., but found nothing on this #0246. Does anyone know the time frame of it's production, and or any other info. on it?
Thanks
