I put together an Excel Spreadsheet with specs, links to pics, as well as a second worksheet that has links for brochures, general ads, news articles and patents.

Vise Info Spreadsheet - Specs & Brochures
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1sHFRfY_DFXMz6bFeeYI7UKRpUd3aheAE86KBQRBGb9s/edit?usp=sharing

The vise thread has tons of info on it but getting close to 3000 pages, the Excel is just a means to find things easier. Many links are from the page they appeared on, 99% from GJ. But I have many items saved on my PC or some stuff other GJ members have e-mailed me, I need to post them somewhere to link them, so I will do that on this thread.

If anone has pecs, pics, brochures or anything vise related, you can post those items here. If anyone finds errors in anything posted, please let me know, you can post it on here also.

I will add it or make corrections when time permits. I should have a new upload once or twice a month

Here is a couple more Athols. these are the Athol Ratcheting handle or 700 series vises.

First one is the 713. Weights 40lbs, has 4" jaws and safely opens to 5-1/2" and has cast in Hard jaws.

The next one is a 717. Weights 67lbs, has 5" jaws and opens to 7" with hard cast in place jaws.

Both vises are welded at the ratcheting area and will get repaired late.

This is a great service FMC1959 is doing for the bench vise crowd. Please look and see if you can supply pic's and the specs for this spreadsheet with vises you own.

Athol 113 A This Stationary vise weights 20-1/lbs and has 3" wide jaws that opens to a little over 4"

Here is another Athol 123-1/2 has cast in hard insert jaws that are 3-1/2" wide. The pipe jaws are replaceable. Vise weights 44 lbs and opens to 4 inches wide.

Thanks to a GJ member Steve M Welding that lives close to me for sharing his vises. These two are his. He is responsible for getting me into the vise business. He owns 50+ vises that he has purchased at Garage Sales here in Estes Park for the last 35 years. Thanks Steve.

Here is a 8" Parker # 978 swivel base that was restored and a stand built for it from AZ. I believe a GJ member owns this. I did my little part and made a set of hard jaws for it.

Here is a brand cross-reference, probably the most useful single page of info I have seen. This chart allows you to cross-reference the various makes by model number. If you want to see what a comparable vintage Vise was to that Reed 204R or a modern Wilton 450s is, you can check it out in this chart.

T45 great chart and thanks for posting.

I have about 150 - 200 brochures, I know I have a similar one by Columbian comparing their models to the competitors. I need to post them but trying to organize and catalog them first, I have many doubles and triples.

EDIT: T45, I was posting your chart on the "Brochures" worksheet and noticed I already had it. Post by Demoman way back in the Vise thread.....too many brochures to keep track :)

Kevin, as always, thanks for your contributions. You have been a great help with pics and info I am currently missing. I added your 973 & 953 pics to my working sheet, I'll upload it in the next few days.

They look to be my handy work :)

If you go to the link in my signature you will find PDF's with better quality versions of those pages as well as them throughout the different years. Those are from a Buck and Hickman catalogue, there are also Record and Parkinson catalogues on that link.

You'll also find some American vises in the earlier Buck and Hickman catalogues.

I was pretty sure it was you, thanks for those and I will get around to the catalogs in your links; lots of good stuff to go through.

I wanted to ask one of you guys across the pond about the MFR relationships. I know that Parkinson made or owned Samsonia, but was it through an acquisition or was Samsonia a sub brand, or something else? Then Handy, Perfect and Ajax, were they all independent and gobbled up by one f the bigger guys (I think Fortis owned Ajax). Or were they introduced by the parent company as a sub brand or even equal brand, just a marketing ploy to get more market share?

If you have any info that can explain these, that would be great. I can add that info onto the vise spreadsheet or maybe just simply link your response under the manufactures on the Brochures worksheet of the Excel.

Thanks

The Handy and Perfect Vises are ranges that were designed and made by Parkinson as opposed to being part of a buy out.
Samsonia was the brand name that Parkinson sold their cast steel (as opposed to cast iron) vises under, I don't believe it was part of a buy out just a sub brand.

The Parkinson Model F Perfect Vise is the cast iron one and the Samsonia Model J Perfect vise is the cast steel one. I don't recall ever seeing any other letter model numbers for the Perfect vises.

I'll have to check about the various renaming that went on with Fortis/Ajax/Alfred Herbert etc.

A restored Parker 976-B from GJ Member balane 6" jaws.

Parker 207 with 6" jaws.

Parker 275 6" Swivel Jaw

These have been added, as well the Howard Iron Works vise has been properly identified, Zoomies Joseph Ware vise and about 20 other entries added and uploaded.

The first 385 pages of the vise thread have been checked, relevant info and picture links added.

Total entries 2283

The brochures worksheet is coming along but much slower. Still have many brochures to properly organize and catalog before entering.

Up to 28 MFR's with at lest one link.

Mark, I forgot to ask you, in your thread, you say it is model PJWK 80. Most often, either the traditional looking fpu vise or like yours with the reverse moving dynamic, how can you tell the model difference? Usually, it just has the size and an fpu logo. Was the pjwk on the vise or you looked it up on their website?

Going down the right side of the page there is a Champion (Bonney) at the top, Shepard (Prentiss) in the middle and a couple of Lewis (Prentiss) on the bottom. Dead center, not sure as I do not recognize the model numbers, could be a Phoenix or Colton, the 2 on the left could be Bonney's or Boker's.
