Help with wiring a spot welder plug

I have a Stark 55010 spot welder, essentially the same as the 240V Harbor Freight welder. I need to plug it into an outlet in my garage wired as a 50AMP level 2 car charger. I cannot seem to figure out how to wire it up. The welder will not work when I plug it in but I verified it worked at the seller's home. He had to keep the plug. It seems simple but can you look at the plug I wired up and offer suggestions? I would think the green wire is ground and it wouldn't matter how I wired the black and white wires since each is a 120V just opposite polarity.

My understanding is that all I need to do is squeeze the lever and push the trigger one way or the other to get it to spark.

your plug looks correct. you have voltage (240) at the receptacle ? the wires from the welder are stripped back far enough ?

not much to it with a 240v plug.

was the cord left on the machine when you bought it?

do you have a piece of metal between the stingers when pressing the trigger?

I'm assuming I have 240 V since I can plug my Level 2 charger in and it shows its getting power.
I put two pieces of metal between the stingers but one might have some paint on it. Maybe I should try two clean pieces of steel.
I just need to press down on the handle and push the switch one way or the other, correct?

Paint between the two pieces absolutely can keep it from doing anything. You have to have conductivity all the way from one tong to the other.

OK! That little bit of paint must of been the problem because it works! I can get to work on repairing my '74Z again. Thanks all for the help!
