Gree Mini-Split stuck on displaying Celsius

I have a Gree GWH12AB-D3DA2D mini split installed in a rental unit. Remote model #YT1F Original factory remote. It used to display Fahrenheit but somehow got switched to Celsius. The operating instructions state by pushing MODE + temp down while unit off should toggle the display, but it does not switch it back. Even with breaker off, the remote display stays in Celsius, so it seems stored in the remote itself. All other remote functions work normally. I purchased a new remote and it's also stuck on displaying Celsius. Has anyone seen a Gree remote where the °F/°C button combo is different or hidden?

Unless you are a licensed HVAC contractor which I am not, Gree will not provide any tech support.

Common Methods for Gree Remotes:
  • Method 1 (Most Common): Turn unit off, hold Mode + Down Arrow.
  • Method 2: Turn unit off, hold + and - buttons together.
  • Method 3 (YT1F remote): Press and hold Mode and Fan buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
If the remote display does not change, try holding the buttons for a few seconds longer. The unit must be off for the change to take effect. [1, 2]

Thank you for these suggestions, I have done most of these but worth trying again. And do I need to be near the unit to make this change? Because with the unit off, I assume the remote has to be reprogrammed on it's own being the master control. And once the remote is reprogrammed to Fahrenheit, the unit will then switch over the display similarly?
