Not sure if they're really the best ever, but these ratchet straps from Powertye are really well made. I ordered 2 and a soon as I picked up the box I knew they would be good. Made in the USA and it shows, full 180 bends on the hooks, thick steel parts and nice heavy web straps.

Can't wait to use these, I hate all the junk straps or there. Used to like Keeper but they have cheapened their products. I was so impressed I just ordered 6 more and will put together a list of needed sizes. I like they come in all different lengths and some colors. These will be the new go to strap.

Cool where do you get them?
I found them on Amazon, haven't really had a chance to shop them out.

I bought mine directly from them in 2021, based on great reviews here on GJ. I save them for the good projects, furniture, heavy tools, etc., not strapping crappy stuff, the HD straps do that.

I've come to like retractable ratchet straps. Not perfect for every job but they work great for most. Also the little spring clip that holds the hook in place while I'm fighting on the other side of the trailer is handy

With all the struggles people seem to have with ratchet straps I feel fortunate I was able to snag about 8 sets from work when I was a co-op 20 years ago. We regularly got sea-tainers full of rolls of industrial felt in from China, and they used 1.5" ratchet straps made in Germany to secure the loads. We used to joke how even the Chinese didn't want to trust their own ratchet straps!

But they're all still going strong 20 years later.

Never knew I needed sheepskin ratchet strap covers. Lot of choices on that site. Might pickup some of the "endless" straps, like a ratcheting version of the NRS river strap.1778545127135.png

Powertye makes good straps for sure.

I need to up my ratchet strap game. I have some older ones but most are frayed, bent or junky.

Do you both feel like these are worth investing in for ATV, cargo for a trail rig and other general purpose off-road use?

I treat ratchet straps as disposable items. They get used, abused, and cut to fit the role they need to fill.

I just keep buying cheap straps and toss them when the time comes. The few times I’ve spent money on good straps, they’ve lasted just as long as the cheap ones.

Well, that depends on what you're using them for, or rather, which room in the house you're using them in. 😉

If they don't have self attaching loops on the straps I don't want them.
So I can toss the end over the load and it'll attach itself to the trailer on the other side for me? Sign me up!

Those look like nice ratchet straps.

I've wanted to buy good ones, but unfortunately that size is pretty much disposable for me, so I don't know about paying $15 apiece for them. I go through probably 10 of them a year. I lose them, cut them break them.

The best straps I’ve used are from Macs custom tie downs. They have all kinds of great straps and some unique car related tie downs and accessories
Mac's used to be excellent. I own a dozen or more of them and was a huge proponent of them for many years.

Unfortunately, Colin, who founded/owned Mac's sold out to private equity several years ago. Mac's is now just another name brand owned by a conglomerate--with the service to match. I made an order with them a year or two ago and it was a total shitshow. I posted about it here at the time.

Never again.

I'll check out the company mentioned in this thread when I have some time tonight. I could use a few more straps.

Well I ordered some of these straps and got them this week. They are nice but not as nice as the Mac straps I have but maybe Mac have gone down i quality since I ordered my last batch.

One of these Power Tye straps I got is defective. There is a tooth that is bent out so the strap won't release more than one turn. The bent tooth spins and then catches the frame of the ratchet body. My comment on the Macs being better quality is not related to this issue.

Hopefully I will be sent a replacement.

Good find, thanks for sharing.

After having strap hooks come loose a few times I really prefer the hook with a gate or spring clip on. If these straps that hooks like that it would be perfect.

I agree they are disposable, but after a couple close calls with cheap ones I'll spend the extra $ for piece of mind, especially when hauling bikes.

Just got a bunch yesterday, have another order coming. I like to keep a bag of straps in each vehicle plus a some in each enclosed trailer. Good to have a few in the s x s and atvs plus some soft shackles, you never know.

Lol,I had a cheap pair of ratchet straps and one time I had to transport 10foot long porch columns several miles across town on top of my old truck; that I drove all those many years ago. Turns out I must have not known my own strength as I had literally crushed those very expensive columns with that cheap strap set-up, at the time I had no idea what happened. But by the time I got home my jaw fell down 6 inches, all I had left was fiberglass dust. Never saw that one coming.
