I made this every day carry tool kit that I keep in my car. I use an old Milwaukee bit set case and in it have:

Vessel ratcheting screwdriver
Kobalt / Danaher USA 1/4 ratchet
Husky / Danaher USS 16 pc metric & SAE 1/4 sockets
Channellock 326 5” long nose pliers
Husky mini flip utility knife with blades
Various bit types.

I think I have the basics here.

Nice kit, compact and easy to store.

I carry a Metrinch 62pc set. Have had it since the mid 90s and found it to be the most versatile tool set for the road. Fits snug under my rear seat in a nice plastic case. The only thing I did was replace the original ratchet with a Snap On. I also keep some zip ties a razor knife small band clamps needle nose pliers and misc other things that fit inside the case of the tool kit.
I also have a small compressor from snappy that I got a long time ago the link shows the newer version.

For something really portable, I’m finding that the compact ratchet / socket / bit kits are hard to beat.

I’m getting a lot of use out of this Wera set at present. Generally “mid grade” quality wise, but well thought out, the sockets seem to be quite durable, and the bit’s are very good.4202F6CA-9DC4-40B3-879A-E4CA1522FB37.jpeg

Funny timing for me on this thread. I'm currently 3,000 miles from home visiting my in-laws for a couple weeks and they told me they had a couple projects for me while I am here. I grabbed the small tool kit I keep with me in my truck and threw it in my checked bag so this is all I have with me as far as tools go...

I actually have an even smaller kit in the next smaller size maxpedition pouch based on the 5" knipex tools, a bit-ratchet set, and some precision screwdrivers. I can post it when I get home.

Here is my at work EDC. I do not carry these kits on me but they are easily accessible. (I do carry a Leatherman Charge plus on my person at all times).

One is a 1\4 socket set (orphan spares) and the other is a mostly electrical pouch. The most used item is the custom made magnetic bit screwdriver. (I find the magnetic bit screwdriver market lacking). Because these kits are in an environment with multiple people are around inexpensive tools were chosen or sourced.

I guess you would call this my 2nd tier tool EDC. These tools are used at least once per day and some days multiple times per day.

Oh man, I might just have to find a way to squeeze wire strippers in mine. I use the little notches on the klein scissors to great effect but there's no substitute for proper strippers.

Those Metrinch sets are underrated, except for the ratchets, they ****.

That’s a really well thought out kit. I like the way you have included a 1/4” drive bit holder and bits, thus enabling you to omit screwdrivers.

Knipex make a set, with the 6” Pliers Wrench and 5” Cobra’s in a pouch. It’s good idea, but you need extra stuff, and I think the concept works better if everything is in one pouch!

I agree 100% on both parts them being underrated and the ratchets really do ****. That's why I replaced my original set ratchet with a Snappy. My spare/replacement set is getting a Snappy ratchet as well.

I bought a canvas tool bag some 30 years ago, about 8" x 8" x 12", and I toss in extra tools. Craftsman 3/8" ratchet with smaller SAE and metric sockets. Large SAE wrenches, multi-bit screwdriver, vise grips, needle nose and slip joint pliers, Channelocks, electrical tape, utility knife, large Phillips and large slotted screwdrivers. Stanley FaxMax all steel hammer. . . for many different functions.

I believe I have only ever needed the electrical tape. Hope I'll never need the hammer.

Trunk kit is entirely comprised of things I've needed at some point. I have roadside assistance and good cell tower coverage...anyways:

No name 8-19 wrench set
3 random screwdrivers
440 Channellocks + various cheap pliers
Tire plug kit
Smaller Crowbar
No name club hammer

All housed in a freebie toolbag I got from somewhere.

Stopped carrying tools in my pockets for the most part. Pocket knife and flashlight are as far as I'll go.

What about adding stainless steel zip ties?

Stainless Steel Zip Ties:
Link
Funny thing - I didn’t even know those existed a week ago.

Had to deal with a rattly heat shield on an exhaust, and decided to see how others dealt with problem before strapping it down with locking wire! Thanks youtube!

Turns out a local shop keeps these. Awesome things! Definitely in my “road box” from now on!

Have a bag that I carry with Duct tape, pliers, extra knife, zip ties, some gloves, some para cord, a lighter... There is a screw driver in my car somewhere... I need to get a dedicated setup that stays in my trunk.

This started out as an Armstrong 1/4” metric ratchet kit and I included some additional items such as Tsunoda pliers, Montana bits, some offshore Pozi bits, General tools but ratchet, Craftsman ratchet adapter and Husky torx screwdriver. I need to get a small utility knife and led flashlight and it’s complete. This is something I’ll use for bikes and furniture.

I can't find that one. I have seen a PB Swiss one with the pliers wrench and linesman pliers

Looks like it’s the 00 20 72 V0159E3D734-5347-4EFC-9751-52ED59207B00.jpeg

They offer other versions now, with both 5” tools, or both XS tools, but I quite like having the 6” pliers wrench.

Increasingly, I just chuck a pliers wrench and bit driver in my bag anyway. Whatever I’m doing I seem to find a need for one or other.

Oh, I interpreted it as a Wera toolkit that included the pliers wrench and cobra. The closest I had seen to that is the electrician tool kit

wera_2go_e_1.jpg

It makes sense, pliers wrench, cobra, and a Kraftform Kompakt set and you are good to go.

Tank you!

Yes, I did say Wera, but I posted that one just before!

Probably been up all night and got my Wera’s and Knipex mixed!

Rope, zip-ties, duct tape, a tarp or two, plastic sheeting, a shovel, pick, axe, and a saw. Rubber gloves, a bag of quick-lime, spray bottle with ammonia, another with bleach, some rags...
And an alibi. An airtight alibi.

Not really an EDC, but an on-the-go bag. It serves two purposes. When I have a diy project or repair around the house, I always bring this as the first "tool". It saves some running back and forth.
Second, sometimes I have to go to my mother-in-law to fix something. Or, in rare cases, to someone else, my son or parents mostly. Then I will bring this bag. In many cases I don't need to bring anything else, except some bins with screws etc. and maybe a drill, saw etc.

Here's the contents. I noticed a tape measure is missing, it usually lives in there too. Gotta find it!

Is anything else missing? Maybe just one thing - I would like to replace the large adjustable wrench with a short one with wide jaws. They make these plumbing-type ones that suits this purpose better, like this one:

Skærmbillede 2026-05-21 141845.png

Anyway, I want to see your on-the-go bags and EDC bags.

I just realized I had reduced a full mechanics kit to a base kit equal to what most here call handyman kits.

I can do electric, plumbing, basic cement repair, woodworking and mechanical with a small plastic box of tools.
As my son matures he gets my excess as the base of his future capabilities. Stuff he can use, lose and learn with before he decides what the best for his needs are.

I can give him mom's new woodworking projects now and he can do them alone if need be. I like to help but it's his time to shine. He does a lot of basic home repairs already.
He just got a professional grade battery drill at a pawn now he has shown he treats the cheaper one well.

He may never get past a good homeowner or handyman kit his entire life, and he will inherit mine one day.
Or what's left of it.
