Fabricated a cedar baluster for a handrail

Working on a porch project, mostly painting, but did need to replace a 2-1/2 x 2-1/2 (nominal) cedar baluster that had begun to rot. Couldn't source a replacement so glued up a 1x4 yesterday with Tightbond III and just cut it down to size. Rounded over the corners with a 1/4 roundover bit on a trim router. Came out nice its going to be painted so nobody will ever know its been laminated haha.

Also cut a thin piece of the scrap to replace the rotted filled.



Garage smells great love the smell of cut cedar.

In the late 80's I did a customers family room with 1x3 T&G cedar wainscot and ceiling . I forget how many lineal feet it was but every cut put a smile on my face .
I love working with cedar even though the sawdust is toxic to your lungs

The best is Spanish Cedar and old cigars. Even if you don't like the smoke the aroma when opening the box is something to behold!



Old humidor I made many moons ago. Never finished it.

Quite an expensive block of wood on the outside... Brazilian Rosewood purchased when it was still legal to do so. Still have the rest of the plank that this was made from. Beautiful grain and color.

Repaired!
