I have looked at several concrete paint posts and still would like some advice. I have a section 200 sq ft in my working garage I am thinking of painting. There will be no car traffic in this area just a workbench, toolbox, tables etc. Any advice on products, methods and information appreciated.

I'd take a look at HellFire® Concrete Coating. It's a moisture-cured urethane (MCU) that's incredibly durable and easy to apply. Two gallons will get you three coats over your 200 sq ft, which is plenty of build for a workbench/toolbox area.

A few tips:
  • Prep is everything — diamond grinding is the way to go. Don't skip this step or cut corners with acid etching if you want the coating to last.
  • Three coats gives you a solid, scrubbable surface that'll hold up to dropped tools, oil drips, and whatever else a working garage throws at it.
  • Hellfire has excellent Chemical Resistance, Heat Resistance And Substrate Penetration.

Happy to answer any questions if you want more details on the application process.

I used oil based porch and floor paint from Lowes in one shop. Held up decent with commercial use. Was easy to repaint the high traffic areas too.

Was around $30 a gallon, probably closer to $50 now though.

I painted my garage floor somewhere between 2012 and 2014. The prep work was very important. The garage was mostly empty and that made it much easier. I swept the floor very well and washed it with Zep cleaner and degreaser. Then washed it again with the garden hose and then swept all the water out. I used an acid on it next and then washed that off. Then I put primer down and then painted. I had the paint tinted blue for an extra few bucks. I'm very happy that I did the work, the floor was very ugly as you can see. I didn't spend a fortune on special products either. I used a latex based paint for easy clean-up.DSC00885.JPG

Modern polyurea and epoxy comes in solids. Either is fine. Application is a little different.
Staining (water based) and clear polurea is a go-to for me.
