okay, okay....I posted the higher res version in an album. As I run across more photos, I'll add them too it. Especially if I find the ones of the Service Station of the Year award. Thanks for asking.
That's cool Lou!
My Dad started an Esso service station in 1957 as well. I grew up in that one and a later one. I regret that I have few if any pics of them.
Would love to see yours.
Rob
This was actually his second building. He built this one to replace a leased station that his brother rented for him and had ready and waiting when he got back from Italy after WW II. He continued in this building until he passed away in 1965. From 1976-1986 I rented his original building (built in 1925) as North Rockland Amoco.
So what has been happening since the above post. We had an Esso in the village where I grew up. It was one of 3 garages operated many years ago. The owner “Joe” was the Chrysler and International dealerships. It also was the Greyhound stop and that is where my newspapers came in that I delivered. The mechanics always teased me as they said they didn’t know anyone else with so many patches on his bicycle tires. They always laughed at how quickly I could patch my bike tires or anyone of my buddies. Had a great bunch of mechanics as well. I heard they knocked it down a few months back, kind of sad but time has a way of continuing on.
Been trying to find a pic of the old Esso in its days of splendour, but no luck. The family that owned it when I was a kid are still around. Might get a pic from one of the kids.
Here it is from a couple of years back. All the pumps, lights and signage are long gone. The red and white paint isn’t what it used to be either. Time keeps moving along doesn’t it.
