I’m not a model guy really. Tiny cars, tiny tools, tiny little paint brushes… I appreciate the craft, but don’t have much interest in the final product. And this probably isn’t even in our lane since the video barely gets into the nuts and bolts of how the thing is built. But the early 911R? That car has lived in my bloodstream for years. I once built a clone and promptly balled it up like a reckless animal with more enthusiasm than talent. So yeah… I’ve got a soft spot.

And then there’s Type 7. Those maniacs don’t just make videos… they build atmosphere. Mood. The production quality is so damn good it feels irresponsible to scroll past it like some dopamine drunk civilian.

Maybe I’m projecting. Maybe it’s nostalgia mixed with a little self-inflicted trauma. But give it a watch. There’s something lurking in there. It grabbed me by the collar and wouldn’t let go. It might do the same to you.

I built models as a kid and have dabbled with them as an adult, but that aging/patina stuff has always been beyond my skill set.

There's a guy on Youtube, Plasmo , He does a lot of aging on a lot of his builds. Mostly military craft. His videos is what sparked my interest in doing models again. I'll never be at his level, but have picked up quite a few tricks while watching him.

I always painted them 1 color.

Putting them together was the purpose to me. Function over form.

I know a fellow nearby who does a lot of model building and often uses parts from a number of kits to build something based on a family photo etc., that isn't available as an actual kit. He does a lot of aging so he end models are surprisingly realistic. I don't know anything about his painting and finishing techniques, but I may get a chance sometime to ask him. His work is usually based on available plastic model kits but he sure comes up with some great looking vehicles.
